?6K a fair amount for a resto project but there are a lot of parts with it and the interior looks mint so it may get that. If it as been dry stored since 88 hopefully the rot wont be behind the sealer in all the corners like normal.

If I had the money to spare I would be tempted

Somebody's chance to aquire a genuine, RHD, low mileage sport project. Let's hope someone we know buys it and we get to see it rise again.

In the right hands, this could be made into a very nice useable Sport. However it would need to be a labour of love, because having the work done by others would soon make the costs prohibitive.

I notice that it has 1 offer. With a completed value of around ?8-?10k, I think the asking price of ?6k, is somewhat optimistic.

Yesterday when I looked there was 4 offers  ;D :D

Now it has disappeared from E Bay  :o :o

Any Ideas ??? ??? Probably sold. But the question is 'To Whom'  ;D

Must be someone on the Forum  ;D ;)

I guess we will have to wait and see. If it is someone on here hopefully we will see it be transformed into a nice useable example.

Even if I had the time to restore it, which I don't  :-\ :-\ I certainly don't have the ability  :-\ :-[ :(

I'm no Edd China (You know the one from Wheeler Dealers). You can pick it up on You Tube and some of the episodes are quite good. It would be great if they did a 131  ;D ;) :D :)

I would have said "they'll never do a 131 because of the limited appeal" but they've just done a Fiat Dino Coupe 2.4. It will be shown as part of series 8. The car is currently for sale on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1970-Fiat-Dino-Coupe-2400-Sale-/260937295109 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1970-Fiat-Dino-Coupe-2400-Sale-/260937295109) and I want it!  :D

Post by: mirafioriman on February 01, 2012, 06:57:23 PM
Well if it made ?8500 then someone obviously has a lot of money. It may make a nice car but it will be a very expensive one when it's done!

I have just now read the member's coments on the sale of 131 for ?8500 and they seem to me to be very childish (or is it Jealous)
Kevin  What price would you accept for your 131 or your TC ?  Joe.

Title: Re: sport on ebay
Post by: kev131 on February 05, 2012, 06:04:00 PM
Hi Joe - I keep getting asked that question.  :)

The difficulty with valuing my car is that it is a conserved rather than a restored example in what appears to be the most popular colour (although not mine).

I've been tempted with a generous offer for one of cars already so it would be a rich man who could tempt me to part with my last remaining Mirafiori!!  ;)

Very recently there was a orange sport for sale in excellent order for around ?10,000. ?1500 will not buy you a restoration on a rusty one......

I wouldn't put the comments as childish or being jealous. I think what was written were only personal opinions.

The car was a good resto project but it did have a ceiling price IMHO was around the ?4500 mark.

A good paint job will cost approx ?2k plus any labour costs for the welding etc required. At ?8500 it will have the end result of a very expensive sport.

I think its good news they are grabbing higher prices if you own one not so if your looking for one but i think prices will level out verry soon as they are reaching their top dollar price now and i cant see people paying much more than they are going for now.

Like it was said in an earlier post a mint Orange 131 Sport sold for ?10,000 about 14/15 months ago and it needed next to no work, everyone was shocked then now were seeing close to that for a project Sport.
We have to remember people are paying ?5k plus for rust bucket Escort Mk2's and thats the base L model or GL models.

Our problem is going to be lack of 131 Sport parts in a few years time which will make owning or justifing buying one difficult.

I agree with you 106 that it's good if you own one as both of us do  ;D
I think this is a lot of money as well but on the other hand my 17 year old son has just got a quote for his first car a 1998 Fiat cinquecento 899cc and the cheapest quote is ?2799 !
I feel like I have been mugged by these insurance companies.

I agree with Devon Dave and 106  :) ;). People need to be realistic on what their cars are worth  ::) ???. I am in the process of buying a car (not a 131) and am faced with the same thing  ;).

Economics was never my strong subject but I seem to remember something about the Law of Supply and Demand. If someone wants to charge a high price to supply something for which there's a demand, I'd say good luck to them. Why are we blaming (should say "you" or "some of you" as I'm not blaming anyone  ;))  the guy who is asking ?8500 for his car when we should be congratulating him on a successful sale? If you don't like that price for that car, then perhaps you should blame the guy who is willing to pay that amount for that car. Or even better, don't blame anyone; simply congratulate the seller on a successful sale and also congratulate the buyer who is willing to pay the price to keep another of our favourite cars on the road.  ;D

I think we all will be shock and scared to drive our humble 131 's when they start going for ?15000 - ?18000 for a road going  131 , when we were  used to pay ?2000 when we first  started interest n ithem 20 years ago now and making a couple of hundred on top and felling happy  ,. i know some large feller  is used to it in his 131  ;D
just like the RS 2000 men they've got used to it .

Title: Re: sport on ebay
Post by: simon131 on February 07, 2012, 10:58:33 AM
By 'some large feller' do you mean me by any chance Ja? ;)

I don't think anyone ever gets used to high prices of anything, but as Theo says, it's a case of market forces and 'supply and demand'.

I'm sure classic car prices in general will rise and fall - just as they did on the late '80s when there was a 'recession'. People put their money into cars instead of the more usual 'investments', but in the case of 131s, especially RHD cars, the supply has all but dried up so prices are bound to rise.

I don't think that's the case with cars  :-\ I have the last surviving RHD Trevi Automatic in the UK and the only Trevi in regular use in the UK for the last few years but it's still worth nothing!  :-[ Who wants to give me ?8500 for my Trevi? Just 12 previous (careful?) owners .....  ;D ;D

I see the various comments about supply and demand that really can't be argued with. Moreover I endorse what  Theo says regarding another one of these cars that survives is only good fro 131's.

However I maintain what Dave and 106 say as regards this vehicle being overpriced. Auctions are always a great guide to see what a car is really worth. Here are some auction results from Anglia Car Auctions (as their web site) that would compare with a fully restored / original 131 Sport.

Jan 12 Auction - 1980 RS 2000 with the very rare and desirable 'X' Pack ?9,660

Sept 11 Auction - 1985 Lancia Beta Volumex - Looked in Great Condition with only 3 owners ?3,675

And the closest to a Fully Restored  / Original 131 Sport:

April 11 Auction -  Fully Restored RS2000 ?7,560

I don't think there are many people that could argue that 131 Sports are worth more then RS 2000's. Even though I and I suspect everyone on the forum prefers 131's. Furthermore the classic car magazines value 131 Sports at '000's less then RS 2000's.

I have no issue with the seller getting or asking this ammount he is quite right and i take my hat off to him for getting that ammount.
As for the buyer he is also quite right, as they say if you have got it flaunt it  ;D and i genuinly wish him a pain free and exiting restoration.

All i am saying is that it is amazing how last year a mint 131 Sport sold for not that much more money than a project has just sold for this year.

This particular Sport did look like a good project i have to admit.
I am guessing that the new buyer will have to spend ?5k-?8k to get it to a mint standard which could make this a ?13,000 to ?16,000 + 131 Sport bill.

Im glad i bought mine when i did.

106

16K for a restored Sport would be a serious cost  :o :o and would rule me out of such a vehicle especially when the above auction results are considered  :-\.

However, if you are doing it for the love of the vehicles and are fortunate enough (definitely not me  :-\ :'() not to have to consider the economics of the end result, then why not  :) ;).

Surely classic cars are about preserving vehicles, enjoying them and not doing it to make money  :)

I wish I had a barn and had put the sports I had scrapped in it as I would be rolling in it now.
131 sports were going for next to nothing in the late eighties into the nineties, I know I bought a lot of them up ;D

Hi Lads.
Barry you really got a hot topic going.First of all hope i don't offend anyone as some of you know i often
go on ranting ;D.So here goes it's gone to the stage as Devon Dave said 6k might be a fair price but
with only 32k on clock what would be the end result if someone done all the work themself,as i have a
friend who is just after saving one of my cars from going to Fiat Heaven. When i gave him the car it did
not look too bad boy was i wrong to cut a very long story short when he found all that was wrong we
sat down i was willing to break car :(for parts he did not agree with me,answer was once i was willing
to let him do it in his own time and no time limit he made sills himself and any other panel i could not get
him a year later car back on road and done cheap. So maybe lads if right person gets the car it might not
turn out all that expensive.Don't forget as young Theo said Supply and Demand and as Jason said back
less than twenty years cars were very reasonable price wise so where will it end as the years go bye
cars get a lot scarser on the ground so as long as there are people like me and the rest of the Fiat
lovers out there we wont know where the top price is going to stop, and how many RHD are left,Sorry for
ranting on it's just i love the 131 and sorry i did not start driving them sooner.
      Willie.
