Title: Fiat Colours in the 70's
Post by: Rob 131 on March 06, 2012, 01:29:42 PM
With reference to the Showroom Article on Shoppers 131 and Kev's comments regarding the bright Fiat 70's colours, this makes an interesting comparison with todays colours.

Last week I had just dropped off my Vauxhall Meriva  ;D ;D Hire Car and was walking home passing a large Franchise Dealer where the used cars where nearly exclusively Black or White, with various shades of Grey in between. In a word Dull  :-\ :-\.

It is a real shme that on the UK's roads we do not see brighter more interesting colours.

Full marks to Ford who have some nice Bright Green's and also my favourite for a Fiesta 'Hot Magenta'  :D ;D

A bit more colour (choice) would be nice on our modern motors  ;D.

We call today's prevailing colors "Leasing Silver" and "Leasing Black"  ;)

Yes, it's a dull world. However, some 80s colors which were horrible even back then are returning, like dark brown metallic or copper metallic :o

by the way, the bright 70s colors are not suited to modern cars anyway. Ever seen an Audi TT in orange? This looks really stomach-churning (ok, being no Audi fan I detest this pseudo sport "bobby-car" anyway, but in orange. it really really sucks :o)

Robert

It just goes to show that colour is vey much a personal thing  :D :D. I too loathe the Browns of the 70's and am not very keen on their comeback. However my worst colour for a car of all time was Beige :-\ :-\ Disgusting. Copper / Bronze; not keen on modern cars in such hues. For some reason I was not adverse to the S2 Super in Bronze.

Orange Audi TT's  :o :o. I'm afraid I rather like it in the TT  ;D ;D. Are they doing that colour in the latest shape.

Cars are also a personal thing. You don't like Audi's, I think they are great. In fact I have been using the Wife's A4 for a few days and it is a real quality product  :D ;). Shame it's not the 2.0 Turbo version with 200BHP  :o :o

Actually I have seen 2 or 3 Audi S# in orange... Not the best color for it...

See for yourself: http://photosofcar.com/audi/orange-audi-tt-coupe-2-2.html

doesn't really suit the bobby car  ;D

As to Audis in general: yes, they are "nice" when brand new leasing cars. Once you own one and it is "aged" (means has 60+k kms on the odometer) you better have your platinum credit card ready (ever seen the prices for e.g. the alloy TCAs/wishbones that last around 60k km resp. 30k if aftermarket parts and can only be replaced as a whole, not just the bushings?  :o :o)

Ah, another thing: yes, beige. This is really an upsetting color  :o however, I do have a soft spot for that, since my first 131 was an S3 Super in this color:

I still like the Orange for the TT, although this is the MK1 that styling wise I was never that keen on. I did give consideration to a Blue one in 2002. Ended up with a 330i Sport.

The Wife's Audi that we have owned for 3 Years has really endeared me to Audi and would have considered an A6 for myself if it was not for the fantastic Jaguar ZF (I'll keep dreaming and saving)
