Title: Ferry Crossing - Group travelling from Ireland Post by: kev131 on November 13, 2007, 08:24:05 PM FERRY TRIP - IRELAND TO SCOTLAND
This is the crossing that I intend to book (in the next few days) - Before Stenaline's fluid pricing starts to push up the prices as available spaces diminish.? ::) It would be great if the Irish contingent could arrange to meet up and travel together (3MA begins early) ;). If this crossing suits perhaps you could add your posting below. Outward Belfast-Stranraer ? Depart 12:20 Arrive 14:15 Fri 16 May HSS Fast Craft ?75.00? Homeward Stranraer-Belfast Depart 14:50 Arrive : 16:45? Tue 20 May HSS Fast Craft? ?65.00? Total return fare = ?140 /?204 ..up ?10 since I last checked... (this is the fast ferry - I cant stand the slow boat!) Anyone who cant stay for the full 5 days can avail of crossings on any of the intervening days - Click on here for Stenaline's website. http://www.stenaline.co.uk/stena_line/gb/stena_line_uk.html From Stranraer to Inveraray it is 139 miles and a virtually straight road North passing through Glasgow. And I would strongly recommend driving round Glasgow and not through Glasgow otherwise you'll still be there on Tuesday morning when the rest of us are going back.
Title: Re: Ferry Crossing - Group travelling from Ireland Post by: kev131 on November 14, 2007, 08:13:10 AM Ah... It was always in my head to travel on the 16th. OK let me reassess - By the way do we have accomadation arranged for the 15th yet?
Thanks for the travel advice about Glasgow - I guess it must have a bypass of sorts? We dont want to get caught up in rush hour traffic. Title: Re: Ferry Crossing - Group travelling from Ireland Post by: kev131 on January 10, 2008, 09:15:22 PM HI all
Booked my holidays today so nothing else left to do except book my ferry which I intend to do over the weekend - Prices unchanged when I checked on Tuesday. See earlier posting above for specific details. As part of the fun will be travelling in convoy if anyone who is intending to travel this route has another suggestion please post here ASAP. Otherwise please accept these dates as the official travelling ones although anyone can go at other dates/times to suit themselves. When I last checked Mick Mark & I are signed up for these crossings (fast ferry). Title: Re: Ferry Crossing - Group travelling from Ireland Post by: kev131 on January 15, 2008, 09:18:12 PM I'm booked and fully paid up.
And the funny thing was that after numerous? failed attempts to get hold of someone to provide a concessionary rate I managed to get 12% off as follows : Key an obsolete discount code (I used V780) and when you get to the point of confirming your booking the system crashes and asks you to telephone the call centre where they can see your booking and the reason it crashed. Claim that you are an AA member or Axa plus member and they will research the appropriate code and discount the price manually. Axa Plus worked out at 12%. Plus now that the Euro is stronger than it was against Sterling the cost of ?123.20 is now about ?163.00 Another job done but I need to make sure that my insurer is OK with me taking the 131 abroad (Green card possibly) and breakdown insurance! Dont forget to book the FAST FERRY - Otherwise you will ages on the high seas.
