Thats the same car that was in Armagh last week and sold for around ?5000. Wonder why the new owner is selling it after only owning it a week?

Seems well overpriced in my opinion.  ???

Are we sure it definately sold on ebay, not just spoof bidding?
Seems a bit of a quick turnaround for not alot of profit to me?
Cant help but agree about it being overpriced, that said, makes me feel better about sinking more and more money into mine!!

Maybe its more than expected to fix, it looks like the normal rusty old
pig to me.

Interesting. The pictures show the cars condition better than the previous ad. I'm with Roger and I'm also guessing someone bought it and then discovered it was worse than they thought ::)

My little experience has tought me 'expect the worse, cause its not going to be any better than that!'

In reality it looks quite good when you consider some restorations what's the worst it can be?

The floor pans are gone

The scuttle has rusted through.

The Chassis rails are always gone, so that doesn't count.

Sills always rot away

   ;D :-\

Guess I need to count my blessings! I've only got 3 out of 4 on your list, not quite sure how my scuttle has escaped the demon rust!

If the sills, floorpans and chassis rails have gone then there's virtually nothing left ::)

Most people just don't have the skills, time, inclination or money to complete such a large job.

You basically just end up building a new shell. Then you still have all the exterior panels to do. The previous seller was also selling one of Yagmur's roof panels so even that was rusty ::)

I cheated and just cut it way on one and got lucky on the other ;D

Ya I did a roof, not so funny for a novice I can tell you, its having enough flange left underneath to weld to that's the problem.

To me one of the downsides of the increase in 131 interest is that as we are beginning to see, some people will now spend thousands on pieces of scrap :o

Hi dave,

If its for own use, is that bad?   I find it urksome ? when people buy them for profit and just sit on them for years.

I guess it just puts the cars out of reach of many people. I'm lucky as I'm not interested in getting a sport and already have 2 131s but if I didn't have one I would find it very hard to find one I could afford now.

If you want a sport and need to spend five grand or more to get a rotbox that needs thousands spent on it to make it roadworthy then few enthusiasts have a chance of getting one now.

I may well have a go at a four to two door conversion if I ever get the others finished, it may not be perfect but it would only be for family so no worries really, but even then four doors will become scarce by then.  I hate this Thema, it's fast and comfy but still FWD

I paid ?1000 for mine last september, including all the spare panels and interiors etc, which I was concerned about, as it was all advertised for ?250 some time before.
I hope to have mine finished for ?5000, have been lucky that I have a friend and fellow enthusiast who welded strada's last 2 s3's doing the welding as a hospital job, and same painter, who is also a very good friend eventually going to do the paint.
Had some very aprreciated help from kev131 getting hold of 2 rear qtrs, main decision I have to make is whether to keep the webasto roof, or go down the yagmar roof panel route?

If you like the Webasto then keep it although it may make the car worth more if it had an original tin roof.

Cant see me selling this ever after all the heartache! Its being built how I would like it, dare I say it, going down the power steering route too, which I understand also kills its value! Might even have central locking from the s3 donor car!
Does anyone know of anyone who refurbishes webasto roofs?
Or alternatively, do you happen to have a good 2 door headlining Dave?
Also, meant to ask, do you have any mk2 dials, as mine seems to have s3 ones at present.

I think the 2 and four door headlinings are at least very similar could you use and recover the one from the donor car? Sorry I don't have any series 2 dials left, all sold now.

The donor cars one isnt great, but is recoverable if I can get a better one if I cant save the webasto.
Thanks for checking on the dials.
I can manage with s3 dials if I can't find any, they worked fine when we fired her up.
Thanks again.
