Title: Insurance on chassis number
Post by: 131Steve on August 29, 2012, 12:24:56 PM
Has anyone insured a car by it's chassis number until they could get UK plates for it?

I've tried RH but they want UK plates before they can give cover...

Try autoline, there in Northen Ireland so I don't know if they cover the UK too. I am with them and they have cover me with foreign cars before. I have seen car's before in the UK covered by the VIN number.

Yes Steve, did it twice - for the Abarth (in 2004) and Racing (in 2005). Keep trying insurance companies and explain that it is your intention to have the car UK registered and that it will only have a 'chassis number' policy for a few days - they are usually ok about it as you can't tax the car without insurance and it's taxed when the registration is issued, on the same day you present the papers at the DVLA local office ;)

I used Adrian Flux on my one - a bit more expensive but as soon as you have uk plates start shopping  ;)
