wjat is the difference in HP between a 16v engine and 8v engine?, and can you put the cams out of the 8v into the 16v?.

my engine with 16v had 180HP. the difference is huge, go for the modification if you like to modify engines. the thema head will fit old TC block with just few modifications. the cams from 8v will not fit 16V.

yes I have the chance of a complete 16v engine, but my 8v has major modification to it, just if I can swop them over that's all,so it looks like i'll buy the 16v unit the sell my 8v engine. what is difference between 16v and 8v is it that the coil is on the head on the 16v and the 8v is on the block?

Alright, so you are serious. Ok, here we go: First, the engine block is the same. The one used in Stradale that is. Pistons are different, because the use of 16 valves.
Second, the head. This is a piece of art. It mainly delivers the extra HP.
A standard (Stradale) engine delivers 140 BHP with a double downdraft carburator. Comparing to the 115 BHP engine from a Racing/Sport this means 25 BHP more. It's not much, but remember the Stradale was just a homogolation car and suitable for daily use also.
Now, the Group 4 engine could deliver 230 BHP in 1977/78 due to the use of different cams and Kugelfischer injection system.
The 8 valve engine produces the 115 HP at about 6700 rpm. The 16 valve engine however, produces 230 at 7600 rpm. Engine cut-off at 8000 :o

For your second question; no you can't exchange 8V head with 16V head cams. However, there are some parts in the 16V head that are the same as used in every 8V head.

If you can lay your hands on a real 16V engine then go for it. At least save it from being used in some 124 Spider Abarth replica ;).

Yes, on a standard engine the distributor is down left. On Abarth engines it's fitted on top of the outlet cam. Like on 8V injection engines. The ones used on 16V differs also from the ones on 8V.

Absolutely not. The 16V engine from the original 124 Abarth is completely different from the 131 Engine. The cilinder head from 131 however, is the same as later used in Lancia 037.

yes I can have a 124 spyder but was wanting to put the engine out of the spyder into the 131 to make an abarth replica, will it fit are they the same and can I make it like an abarth replica with that engine, cheers mira

The engine in a 124 Spyder with the exhaust cambox mounted distributer is an 8 valve 1608cc unit!  This may be fitted with the waffle manifold and twin Weber 40mm IDF carbs.

If you find an early 16Valve engine in a 124 you have a very rare motor.  Check carefully before you destroy a 124 with an early 16Valve engine.  It may be a proper 124 Abarth!

Look carefully at pictures of the 131 16Valve engine.  The cam covers are secured with small bolts around the perimeter.  This is a very expensive engine.

On an 8Valve engine the cam covers have 2 large bolts along the centre line.
