Title: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: sentrentu on January 03, 2013, 07:19:28 PM Who knows me to say exactly what is the weight applied to the inside of the transom motor having all the Fiat 131 (Abarth included) supported by two screws?
Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: Fiat 131 Abarth#2 on January 07, 2013, 04:07:54 PM this weight is mounted to reduce secondary harmonics so can be balanced the engine harmonics to the frame or chassis!
Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: sentrentu on January 07, 2013, 04:29:58 PM The racing versions and is not put it off the road version will not feel the difference ???
Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: Fiat 131 Abarth#2 on January 07, 2013, 05:22:47 PM engineer have invented this but why nobody knows! ;D
Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: Henk on January 07, 2013, 07:43:16 PM I always thought it is to avoid resonance frequenties off certain masses....
this could be triggered by certain engine noises etc resulting in strong vibrations of parts with the same (resonance) frequency modern cars often have these added blocks to change te frequency (correct me if I am wrong) I think Enzo is right, it is more theory then practice... ;D Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: mirafiori76 on January 07, 2013, 07:45:45 PM I never understood why they put this piece of lead into the cross member. Anyway, i always took it out. It reduces over 3 kilo's of weight and it does nothing off to the balance, handling or performances.
Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: Henk on January 07, 2013, 07:59:03 PM on the other hand, these resonances can be very harmfull....
rememeber the opera singer breaking a wineglass with the right frequecy :'( Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: sentrentu on January 07, 2013, 08:17:04 PM Check the manual in parts, I do not find this particular as a spare, yet it is only common on all 131 series ???
Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: mirafiori76 on January 07, 2013, 08:17:15 PM I like to drive my "Spartan" 131 ;) :D :D A little resonance gives the car this feeling that it's alive ;D
When the sesonance stops then i start worrying :D :D :D :D :D Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: Fiat 131 Abarth#2 on January 07, 2013, 08:31:18 PM I like to drive my "Spartan" 131 ;) :D :D A little resonance gives the car this feeling that it's alive ;D When the sesonance stops then i start worrying :D :D :D :D :D Mike, for me gives this more vibration resonance and feeling! :D ;D ;) Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: mirafiori76 on January 07, 2013, 08:45:38 PM Eeeh... Enzo? Where is the piece of lead hidden in her? :D :D :D :D
Anyway, when my group 4 is finished it will vibrate, squeek, rattle, hum, resonate and whatever more... I CAN'T WAIT... ;) :D :D :D Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: Tas131 on January 08, 2013, 12:45:04 AM Enzo? Where is the piece of lead hidden in her? The lead is the weight in your pockets trying to pay for the maintenance on that model, but the curves look like it would handle, so could be worth it for a few years until the rot sets in. Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: sentrentu on January 08, 2013, 07:57:18 AM Be good .............. :-*
Here more pictures of this cross, it would be nice to understand the motivation of this weight :) Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: sentrentu on January 08, 2013, 07:58:22 AM And............
Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: N. Dinis on January 08, 2013, 11:20:51 AM sorry,I'm still trying to find that part on that 131 special that Enzo posted a few posts before hehehe
Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: Henk on January 08, 2013, 07:33:38 PM sorry Sentrentu, I tried the scientific approach but then Enzo strarted posting pictures of my wife ;D ;D ;D
Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: mirafiori76 on January 08, 2013, 07:38:02 PM Your wife!?? Not bad for an 98 year old man, Henk :D :D :D :D :D
Just kidding. Still no idea why the lead was added to the front cross member :-[ Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: Henk on January 08, 2013, 07:47:57 PM yep, we are drifting away from the topic...
regarding my age, you are only 50% wrong (I can post a real pic from my wife inside the 131, but need to be sure theo keeps the spammers outside this forum first.. :-\) Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: Fiat 131 Abarth#2 on January 08, 2013, 08:00:19 PM i am sorry Henk,
but when i was there to make the picture! there was some other guys from this forum i can not name names but i mean it was arranged with you! oh you don't know it! OK, i am a bad boy Enzo :'( but now i know why the beer in the fridge is on the lowest place! ;D Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: Thotos on January 08, 2013, 08:08:40 PM it would be nice to understand the motivation of this weight :) Is it not just a jacking block to distribute the forces when the car is jacked up from the cross member? As for Enzo's other vibrating, resonating accessory, I though it was standard fitment in 131s :-\ Don't you all have that? ;D ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: mirafiori76 on January 08, 2013, 08:15:50 PM So THAT'S what it is, Theo... Need to take another look at the underside of the car Or have a look again in the dashboard box. :o :D :D I did find a small toolbox, however... :D :D :D
Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: sentrentu on January 08, 2013, 08:39:07 PM but now i know why the beer in the fridge is on the lowest place! ;D Stop drinking, that makes bad for your health. I asked my wife to check the box to the engine, while her friend jumped on the engine to see if there are vibrations :-* Title: Re: Crossbar engine Fiat 131 Post by: jasonh131 on January 12, 2013, 06:18:36 PM I never knew we had one of those ,, the block i mean not the girly's ;)
