So....the same gearbox suits the 131 Racing, 132 2000 and Argenta 2000....? ???

What about the 131 Supermirafiori 2000 TC?

It's not new. Very well cleaned though. Fits every TC engine.

But does it "suit" every TC engine Mike - What about different gear ratios......depending on engine capacity ....or am I talking rubbish?  :)

I'm not sure about 1600 and 1800 engines. But 2 litres are the same except for the fifth gear. I have this very same gearbox in my 1600 and there's not a lot of difference in handling. So, the gearbox fits any TC engine and also last series sohc.
But i'm sure there's somebody here to shine a light on this matter. :)

Once i was searching for a difference between gear ratios of gearboxes of diferent engines like 1400 ohc, 1400 dohc, 1600 ohc, 1600 dohc, 2000TC,  2000d and 2500d and everytime i found the same:

1: 3,612
2: 2,045
3: 1,357
4: 1
5: 0,834 (the fifth difers from 0,81 to 0,87)
R: 3,244

I may be wrong but Djape is the man for this question.

Interesting - Maybe this is as a result of the flexibility and torque inherent in the TC engines - One size fits all.  :)

Or maybe just economies of scale and Fiat trying to keep costs down.... ::)

You are probably right about DJape but I don't think he participates here any more.... ???

Yes, we haven't heard from Djape (Pedja) for quite some time now. He is the man for these questions.

I guess the engines and gear boxes are that much in "line" that the use of different differentials was enough to bring the torque to the rear wheels.
Remember, the TC engine is one of the best produced ever. Even nowadays people speek of this unique powersource. ;)

I always thought that most (if not all) 5-speed gearboxes for the twin-cams had the same ratios. Differences in engine output/characteristics were taken care of by having different final drive (differential) ratios.

New or not, I suspect not, the price isn't unreasonable. You can expect close to that for a good second hand box over here.

About two years ago i sold one for 300 Euro's and i have another one for the same price. Including the remote shifter. So yes, it's price is fair.

You can easy get a 2nd hand 131 gearbox on ebay here for about ?150 / ?200 they are on almost every month as they were common to be used by the Morris minor boys.
Last year a genuine (brand)new old stock 131 gearbox still on the fiat stamped pallet sold for about ?350 I remember because I bid ?250 and lost it in the last seconds  ::)

Unless you want to change the gearbox you have...for example, a 4 gear type, or attached to some other engine...you never have to face one to break down.
Over 26 years i drove all kinds of 131's and i have never broke one single gear in any gearbox. And i have pushed them hard sometimes. Never encountered one that was broken or made some kind of noise...
But i'm sure there are members here who had problems.  ;)

The gear ratios are on those data sheets I put up.

It was my understanding that all other 131's except the sport had 5th as an overdrive and top speed was obtained in 4th gear. With the Sport top speed was obtained in 5th.

How true I never got to test and just accepted the word of the others at the time, however I beleive the part number for the Sport box was different to other 2000TC 131's

I do accept that because what I heard was unsubstanciated I could have just posted a right load of bull..... or is that now horse?   :P :P :P ::)
