Bonnie Tyler to represent UK at Eurovision Song Contest  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I always thought that the intention of Eurovision was to introduce new bands. For example Bucks Fizz Winning  :) for the UK 8) 8) in 1981.

Bonnie Tylers's famous hit 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' was number 1 in 1983 :) Some 30 years ago :o :o

What gave you that idea? It must be new songs but the performers can be as old as they like as the Russian Babushkas  proved last year  ;D

So last year the BBC got an old has-been to sing a ballad and came nearly last and this year they get a female has-been to sing a ballad and they expect to do better? It's a good song but I can't see it doing too well  :-\ Mind you most countries are copying last year's winning song and going for techno-dance tunes so Bonnie's power ballad could stand out and do well because of it.

Holland will send their national anthem and dutch rock-bitch Anouk. She's a star in our country and in the USA too i believe, but will fall from the sky during this stupid contest.
It's something for every country behind the former iron curtain now. The last time a dutch artist won was back in 1974 or so. It's really become a waste of time and most of all money. Money that could be spend for real things that really matter.

Add: Anouk was discovered by Barry Hay, frontman of Golden Earring, THE Dutch band. Exsisting for 52 years! Known by hits like Radar love, When the lady smiles, Twilight zone and many other great hits. I bet that if they would be dum enough to compete they would not make it through the first round as well.

Geography was always my weakest subject at school, closely followed by History, but even with my limited knowledge I didn't think Sweden, Germany and Norway, all countries that won in the last four years, were behind the former iron curtain  :-\ ;D ;D And there was Greece, a NATO country and Finland a couple of years before then  :-\ ;D

And 1974 was the year ABBA won with Waterloo  ;) Holland last won the following year in 1975 with Teach-In who sang "Ding-A-Dong". And yes, I remember watching it  ;D ;D ;D

Theo

On your analysis then, we are due a winner from Western Europe  ;).

No chance..... :o :o

Hasn't Terry Wogan even shut the door on Eurovision and he was a huge fan :-\

:D :D :D The eurovision song festival was never my thing. 1975? Well, i was only one year off  :D ;)
Anyway, the last couple of years "The Netherlands" didn't even make it through the semi finals.

Yes, 1975. I know that well because Albert told me while we were sitting in the bar in Scotland for 3ma08  ;) ;D ;D

we are due a winner from Western Europe  ;).

No chance..... :o :o

"No chance" in the same way that Sweden won last year?  ??? Let's come back to this discussion on the 19th of May  ;D ;D ;D

Although, to be honest, so far my favourite is the song from FYRM mainly because it's a place I'd like to visit (even if I'll have to pretend not to be Greek....)

Sorry Mike, I don't think Anouk and her Birds will do it for Holland this year  :-\

That means I'll have to look for a different excuse to visit The Netherlands in 2014.....  ;D

I haven't heard the song, Theo. And i won't. What's the use? I find she shouldn't even lower herself to enter a "thing" that's not of todays world anymore. And i'm not the only one in Holland with this opinion.
I have no idea how it is in other countries, but i think Holland should withdraw for ever.

I take it you are one of those 120 million, Theo? I'll take my place with the rest of the population  ;D ;D
I surely am not a fan of Anouk, but like i said, she shouldn't lower herself to something that just is not to be.
What are we even talking about? This has nothing to do with wonderflowers  :D :D :D :D :D

Much worse than that. I'm one of the 25+ thousand who are in the audience  ;D ;D ;D

And no, it has nothing to do with our wonderflowers but it does affect the dates for the 3ma as the 3ma and the Eurovision Song Contest can never clash  ;D ;D

I'll be keeping a close eye on how the Dutch entry does ;D

For obvious reasons :o :o

As Theo (and everyone else) knows, Eurovision is not high on my list of musical influences or tastes, but if the Anouk I found whilst doing a quick 'google search' at the office is anything to go by I shall definitely be watching too! ;) ;D 8)

Albert should really judge this ;D. Being Dutch ;)
