Title: Carb enquiry
Post by: Mengels1 on November 19, 2013, 11:22:32 AM
Hi Guys.

Can anyone tell me if DCNF carbs and manifold will work on a 2,0L twin cam motor? The guy said it came off a Lancia Beta.

Thanks

If you want to install it in a 131 then the manifold is of no use. Beta has the engine straight in the engine bay, whilst the 131 engine is leaning a bit backwards.
The carburator will lean backwards too if you use this manifold, therefor it won't work properly.

I think you mean the other way around ;D

No, i don't. The Beta engine is horizontal and crosswise placed and the 131 engine leanes backwards in line with the body.
But i think i know what you mean. The Beta engine is also hanging backwards, but in the opposite way as the 131 engine.
Anyway, the manifold is of no use.

These might help any one trying to understand this thread.

Beta engine is fitted transversely and inclined by 20 degrees while the 131 engine is longitudinal and has no inclination. The cam-carriers in Betas are different to the 131 to keep the same amount of oil in them even at the 20 degree incline but I know of people who fitted Beta engines 'straight' without inclination in cars and claim they have no problems with the oil baths for the cams. But I would think if a Beta carb and manifold was fitted to a 131 the resulting angle of the carb (20 degrees) will be too much for the carb to work correctly. So the short answer to your question, the Beta carb and manifold will work for a 2,0L twin cam motor but only if that 2,0L twin cam motor is inclined 20 degrees as in the Beta. So no good for a 131.

The DCNF works on an 131 2,0L not so good but it works
you need only another manifold like the pic:

Thanks for the info guys. I have 2 sets of 40 IDF'S so I don't really need them.  But they were cheap so I thought it may be a good idea to have the spares

Sell them to some Beta nut. The DCNFs are designed for an east/west engine, or east/west mounting anyway, the floats etc. are set up for that configuration. On a north/south engine you'll have fuelling issues when cornering.
