Title: Replacing heater box?
Post by: Tas131 on January 30, 2014, 08:39:52 PM
My latest 131 had OEM aircon, the engine bay bits are long gone, but A/C heater box is still installed. The heater doesn't work particularly well, I back flushed it recently when I changed the head, it flows fine and the control valve works as it should. The problem is it doesn't supply much heat, and only when the fan is running. I've got a good heater box out of my other non A/C car, and the heater worked very well, I'd like to swap them over. Is there a technique to remove and replace without removing all the dash? Taking the one out of the non A/C car was painful, and I imagine the extra complexity in the A/C car would be worse.

i am not sure but the AC box has a totally different lay out, I think, and it would not suprise me if the heatercore is different as well...
The AC version  was made by autoclima I think.
If you decide to change the complete box, I would like to buy your ac box, I have all the other parts to fit AC to mine only the hvac box is missing.
I then have all the non AC parts for you as well,  casing (new from Yagmur), blower (different to ac,) flaps, valve, panel etc

As far as I can remember the dash has to come out to remove the heater box assembly. I think you can get the matrix out without removing anything else. So if you can find a replacement matrix you could just fit that.

Where abouts are you Henk. I'm in Tasmania, freight would be painful. Then again, a fellow 131 tragic bought a left rear guard from me and had me air freight it to Ireland, and then didn't use it because he found new bits.

I am in the Netherlands but would be willing to pay for n AC housing and controlpanel
If you decide to take it out and replace it with a non AC casing I would like to have a quote for shipping it to me.

cheers
Henk

Started the removal process yesterday, got the A/C box out, and after giving the non A/C box a going over this morning it's now fitted in the car. And of course the wiring is different, but I've got the harness from the other car, so I'll source the section I need from that and splice it in.

A/C box is much harder to remove than a standard heater box, access to fasteners is obscured by vacuum actuators etc.
