Title: Gerry's Last Fiat Outing & the 1st Irish Classic Fiat run of 2008
Post by: kev131 on January 03, 2008, 08:43:34 PM
Today was the celebration of Gerry Kennedy's life with a superb turnout of friends and family on crisply dry and bitterly cold day.

The day was enriched with a display of classic Fiat vehicles the most common of which was the Fiat 131 model (5) - although very closely followed by 3 132s, Gerry's favourite Fiat (car even?) and 2 124s. An X1-9 and a Marea were also in attendance.

For the short spin between the meeting place in Ballinakill and the church some spirited driving was enjoyed, both there and back!!? :D

Lot's of Fiat chat ensued where we learnt that a beautiful Fiat 125 is shortly on it's way from Italy to Ireland and that a new black 131 Sport restoration project will be starting soon. Another attendee had not started his car since 3MA in Killarney last May but the car drove all the way to it's destination and back without mishap (over 150 miles). :)

After lots of famous Co Laois hospitality and some tyre smoke and marks when some drivers "accidentally" & suddenly dropped their clutches while co-incidentally revving their engines, we headed home.? :o? 8) In my case it was in a car minus a working heater and 2 hours later I am just thawing out.

What a great day though, to be driving a classic twin cam RWD Fiat. Driving in convoy with similar cars, enjoying the torquey and rev hungry engines, snapping through the gears, enjoying the transmission free steering on relatively empty and dry roads...If it was not for the sad occasion it would have a great day out! As it was a few of us are hatching ideas to find an excuse to get us all out again under happier circumstances!!

Thanks especially to Bren & family for their hospitality... once again... & best wishes and strength to Graham and family.

Hope you enjoy the pics...

Lads thanks for the show of Fiat Power.

I was stunned and frankly overwhelmed to see the support
from Gerry's peers, his fellow Fiat enthusiast's.

Thank you, from the Kennedy's of Kilkenny and Sixmilebridge.

Kev I think we should put this forward as it was loosely talked about on the day but instead of yesterday being Gerrys last outing could be the start of Gerrys annual day out as he would look forward to this more then santa coming to him, well unless santa had 132 parts with him ;) ;)

Eugene here.Just had a thought.Would it be an idea to have a Fiat classic day once a year dedicated to the memory of Gerry!!!!.I didn't know the man,but the turnout at his funeral and the posts on the forum say it all. What i am suggesting would be much much smaller than the event coming up in Scotland. What do the other members think?.Also Kevin, great credit is due to you for posting the photos.Much appreciated.Slan

The guys in the midnight club sent me this, to cheer me up a bit.

It's this thread, but gangsta' style.

It worked !

Nice one G - Anything that puts a smile on the face is welcome.. eh?

I do think we have an opportunity to make a proper event of this later on in the year to get the best show of classic Fiat Power ever in Ireland.? Let's get some suggestions going but personally I'd like an overnight stay somewhere where the socialising can happen with some great scenic drives either side.

I'll have a look at a few dates and a central venue to make it as easy as possible for people to support...

GK's favourite era for Fiats was the 60s & 70s. Wouldn't it be fabulous if we could get at least one of the following models to attend, multiples even better!! :o ;)

500 (New & Old)
600
850 (Berlina & Sport)
1100
1500
2300
124 (Berlina Sport & Spider)
125
126
127 (Std & Sport)
128 (Saloon & 3P)
130 Berlina
130 Coupe
131 (series 1,2,3, Sport, Abarth)
132
Argenta
Ritmo (Basic & Abarth)
X1-9
