The car was probably "demolished" on paper, so the seller didin't have to pay road taxes anymore.

If he now goes back and wants documents for it, he has to pay the road tax he "saved" since taking it of the road.

You can still buy it and get it on the road in other eu-countries without the export documents.

But that of course takes some time, in B circa 4 months, in NL sometimes faster.  I don't know about the UK

At this price it could make sense, but not for everybody  ;D

There is the other option. It can be done through  an Italian Agent working with a specialist importer, here in the UK, that has the required contacts.
Costs approx, Italian agent fee for phone arrangements etc of 250.euros, transportation to UK between ?850.to ?1500 depending on type & time requirements of transport.
Then  you have the agents fee here to arrange UK Nova and UK registration ?250, plus all other labour, fees & charges required in the UK to MOT & register the car with the DVLA, onto an age related registration number. (Obviously any work required for the MOT cannot be quoted for as its dependant on whats required).  ;D G

 

What if it was bought for parts & you were going to break it, what would be the story then?

if you buy it for spares then you only pay the car + the transport

Problem with that is you have to do a "NOVA" (notice of vehicle arrival)for any car imported into the UK from the EU. No NOVA no registration, you cannot declare a NOVA on parts. If you dont do a NOVA within two weeks of arrival you get fined at the point of attempted registration, from memory ?80 plus a "per day" amount. Part of the NOVA is who and where you bought it from plus how much you paid for it, so unless you find an Italian prepared to lie about things, unlikely as there is no gain for them, just a big fine and a criminal record, i cant see the point in pretending otherwise? Remember there is no duty to  pay if the car was registered new in an EU country prior to import to the UK as duties have already been paid within the EU. G

This "NOVA" thing is a pain.....I thought things were suppose to be getting better not worse. ??? All sorted now ;D

" NOVA" was introduced in an attempt to keep  some sort of record of ownership for all the cars coming into the UK from the EU but predominately from the Eastern European countries, you know the ones, you see them advertised in Autotrader etc saying things like "Polish registered so no need for MOT etc" !!! but as always it will make no difference, just make everyone elses life more difficult  ::) more paperwork and hoops to jump through. Couple that with the fact that ALL paperwork now is posted to Swansea as they are shutting down  the local DVLA offices, so when your original paperwork gets lost by them, which invariably it will, they do not accept copies or any form of responsibiliy, your the one left trying to sort the mess out  >:(  I hate to say this but it is only going to get worse with past-times like ours getting harder and harder to pursue. G

I just drive to Italy, put a thing like that on my trailer and bring it back.

Hi Yves, just re-red sid131s message  and see what you mean, if you are going to break it for parts and do not sell the chassis with vin plate (someone else might attempt to then and you would be liable) or try to register the car at a later date, then no a NOVA is not needed. Would be a crying shame to cut up either of the two cars here in question though especially as you could register them once you have the relevant info to hand  :o Keep well. G

G thats what i did mean,
 some of those cars have nice interiors, glass, doors, wings, panels etc so would brighten up a Irish car & then weigh in the remainder ;)

Hi Sid, yes i realise that now, read it wrong Doh! Yes I agree its a way of getting hold of a full set of parts etc to sort out your own car. Then yes just transport it and take it to bits, shame but"Hey-Ho" If you find something up near Venice , Padua etc Paul at Classics and Cabriolets often has transporters coming over and if he has the space it might be the cheapest way to ship it back, although to Essex not Ireland (He is 5 mins from Southend Airport so fly in drive back maybe?) He has an agent out there to but obviously he has to be paid if he gets involved, although many times people in Italy do not respond to emails from elsewhere so at least if involved he could make the difference of being able to buy it or not? Have a good weekend. G
