Title: Another nice import
Post by: Bob131 on May 21, 2014, 06:52:20 PM
Nice racing imported from South Africa, pretty sure this chap sold one a red abarth replica 4-5 months back

To me its a s1 2 door with a 2000 tc engine & not a racing like the rest of the world,
does it even have a badge saying "racing" on it?

No Sid, it doesn't say Racing or Sport anywhere on it as it was a South African modified car and not from the factory in Italy.

Lots of original features missing from this car - steering wheel, seats and wheels for a start. And why does it have a sun-roof?

Seems pretty expensive to me too when you consider the seller says the interior needs tidying and it could do with a respray, especially as the silver Volumetrico only made ?6,600, but I suppose you never know.

They were a CKD car, assembled in SA, so always had a very unique spec :)

Doesn't anyone read the articles on this website?

That's what I was thinking - There's even a link to this article on the advert. Excellent piece of writing on the car and rarer than any "Mark 2" Racing. For a 131 collector (which is something I'll be if the lotto thingy works out) it's a good proposition at that price.

Yes I did read the article ::) - that's how I know it's missing the original parts  8)

I still think it's expensive regardless of it's rarity, hence my reference to the Volumetrico.

Not sure about missing seats Si - Are there seat covers fitted? The head rests aren't the usual Fiat type but I don't know if the SA version had open or closed headrests for their Racing.  ???

Ahem - I suggest you look at the picture in Willem's article Kev  ;D ;D ;D ;D then you'll notice that not only are the headrests different, the seats themselves are a different shape even under the covers  ;) ;) ;) It should have seats that look very similar to the standard Abarth Stradale seats but with vivid, coloured centre stripes instead of the body coloured ones. 8) 8)

Ha - Touche bud!  ;D

I should know not to pick an argument with you on 131s...... :)

Glad to see that you've finally done your research rather than winging it though!!!  :P

Doesn't anybody read the articles......  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

According to the picture in the article about the South Africa Racings, they had 'normal' 131 headrests

All the materials for the seats, door cards, roof cloth would have been all sourced in SA.

The 'Turtle back' air boxs always look good.
I believe this is the only 131 ive seen one fitted, they were standard fitment on 124 Abarths.
The one on the car looks modified though, intakes have been cut and the top cover replaced with mesh.
I recently bought a Turtle back air box which i hope to modify and fit to my 131.

I realise I say this at the risk of being called a heretic or worse, but that car makes my eyes hurt! Surely I'm not the only one? I love the understated look of the UK Sport, to me that looks like someone went mad at Demon tweeks......

No, people don't read the articles and they also only look at the last page of the forum. There is a wealth of information but nobody looks there.................almost, and that's a real pity.

Now we think this is expensive as we thought 5 years ago for an 8K Racing, I expect we think in 5 years we should have bought it......................

Still not a racing ;)

Funny you say that, because in South Africa we don't consider your car as a Racing. We had the 131 Racing first ( read the article, 1978! )AND ours was faster AND stronger AND had more ABARTH parts AND is more valuable. LOL

115bhp VS 150bhp.......

If you want to see a real Racing, look up my post under introductions.

PS, nice 131 Sport mate! LOL

Real Racing. ABARTH would be proud!  ;D

131 Sport. Can't be called a Racing with only 115hp son.

Or at last be called a "sample of a Racing"

Plus the SA cars were actually built for racing!  ;D

But stop arguing 'cause here's a real RACING! 306 bhp from 2 litre engine  ;D ;D

This was an article on the South African 131 Racing.

Sorry guys, it's over 2 pages.

All

This is the same car  (FZF259 GP) as was discussed a while ago here.

http://www.131mirafiori.com/smf/index.php?topic=6729.0

Seems the buyer imported the car to resell.

I did correspond with the previous owner and though a nice solid 2 door 131 they confirmed it is not a "real" RSA racing. It does have some nice performance parts and is supposed to be mostly rust free.

And some of the "Racings" are still racing.

(sidedraft - good to see you active on the forum. I'll be back at Killarney next weekend)

Hi Benjack

Have been on the forum for a couple of years, just don't post a lot. ;)

Let me know when you are in SA again, will be nice to have a chat again.

Hope the car behaves at Killarney. ;D
