Those are not the engine numbers. The number should be stamped near the oil pump housing, unless the block is from some other Fiat so the number could be elsewhere stamped into the side. 131c4xxxxxxxxx is the usual designation for a 2l in Oz.

The number you have found near the oil filter housing is the right one and confirm it as a 1608cc, so you are correct, the 2 litre parts are (in general) no good for this engine.

Exhaust cam driven dizzies are not particularly unusual. Probably means that your engine came out of a 124 Sport rather than a 125 saloon, as some 124 Sports (particularly 1608 engines) were fitted with twin carbs which meant that access to the block mounted dizzy, below the inlet manifold, was extremely limited, so Fiat moved it.

i spoke to they guy who re built the engine an fitted it, an he said all the parts he fitted was for the 2.0L HEAD GASKET SET, an he said something about the feul pump cam shaft on the side of the engine which is 2.0L only even the timing belt he bought was for a 2.0L now im confused ::)

Don't you have any pics of the numbers and of the engine?
The first numbers you mentioned 828xx I have seen on Lancia Tc engines.. Perhaps just a coincidence..

Post a photo of the numbers. Lancia is not likely to be stamped into the block, it's usually a raised casting. The exhaust cam mounted dizzie and twin IDFs are most likely from a 124BC coupe, which were 1608. What are the numbers cast into the head, near the spark plugs?

The head is from a 2l Lancia Beta.

It still doesn't ID the block, but with Lancia cast in to it the odds are pointing that way.

Was this issue resolved? Vieri has a good list here.

Just had my engine on dyno it peaked at 121 bhp not bad for an engine built in the 80s
