Robert , You have 131 sport a car I am surprised by your question. Are you not aware this is a fully dressed, 300 deg camshaft, large valve ,165 bhp Fiat DOHC sports engine. BTW if you want to buy the whole (131 sport / racing ) the car can be yours for 10 K Euro. Rgds Miro PS: If you have one like that in your 2000 TC I will buy it from you for 4K PLN any time. Title: Re: for sale : OGIRINAL 2.0 FIAT 131 SPORT/RACING ENGINE Post by: Yves on July 06, 2016, 06:29:06 AM overhauling an engine costs indeed roughly what you are asking for yours, sometimes even more
the only problem is that yours was overhauled 15 years ago and who knows what damage time has caused inside the engine you just have to convince people that your rebuild is a quality one :D Title: Re: for sale : OGIRINAL 2.0 FIAT 131 SPORT/RACING ENGINE Post by: Robert on July 06, 2016, 06:35:43 AM My remark was more on the gearbox than on the engine. Even 1.5k Zloty would be too much. They still sell for 150-200€.
My engine has cost roughly 2k € to build. And didn't sit idle for 15 years. However, together with the car it would sell for 14k €. Deal? Title: Re: for sale : OGIRINAL 2.0 FIAT 131 SPORT/RACING ENGINE Post by: Yves on July 06, 2016, 02:47:59 PM one of the german forum members spend over 7.000 euro on his engine and it developped a tick
and one of my dutch friends had a fiat 900t engine overhauled for around 5.000 euro, but that was then so clean you could eat from it. it all depends on what you want and wether you can convince the buyer that your engine has been stored properly over the last 15 years it's a bit like old wine: stored under suboptimal conditions you buy very expensive vinegar :D the gearbox is worth it if it has 6 forward gears like in the Simca Abarth 1150s :-) Title: Re: for sale : OGIRINAL 2.0 FIAT 131 SPORT/RACING ENGINE Post by: miro-1980 on July 08, 2016, 12:31:19 AM Well taken!
The engine is worth the money in my view. He who does not agree can make a counter-offer or not make an offer, at all. If it does not sell at the proposed this level I will just jeep it for a backup. Actually I would not sell it at all , but I need the money to finance my 124 Abarth project. Well if it does not sell I will keep it as my backup. It has been recently inspected by my chief mechanic who said that all internal components are fine and the overhaul has been done professionally with proper quality parts and he would not hesitate and just run it. What does ho know - you might ask - I reckon he knows at least as much as anybody I have ever met in my life. He is a third generation car mechanic who has rebuild hundreds of fiat DOHC engines for sports them and is regarded the to authority on Fiat SOHC nad DOHC sport prepared engines in Poland. This may not mean much to you but means a great deal to me. (BTW waiting time to have him build a sports engine for a between 1,3 to 2 years.) Here the cost of a rebuild ( short engine) but not prepared for sports starts is 2,5 K Euro. A going price for a sports prepared short engine here is between 3.5 K and 4. K Euro. An engine done by Guy Croft is ca 9 K GBP. So I reckon a sport prepared engine fully dressed (with all ancillaries) priced at 4K is noting but a good deal. ( especially since some space for negotiations was suggested). Well no one has to agree. Rgds Miro PS: Re : the gearbox is worth it if it has 6 forward gears like in the Simca Abarth 1150s :-) There was never a 6 gear gearbox homologated for Fiat 131 ( or 124 for that matter) To some it may have no significance but we keep our cars as purely close to historic specs as possible and would never even think about putting a Simca (Abarth or not Abarth) in a Fiat. Deal? Your engine would have to be build again. If the cost to build was 2K euro it may not be anything but standard production . maybe on some used parts. The new high dome light weight pistons, new rods and con-rods, new rings, new valves and valve guides , new valve seats, new sports springs, new camshafts and cam wheels for a sports ready DOHC cost more than 2 K Euro alone. So - not interested in the engine. And as far as the 2 door body shell -I have one I can sell you for 8 K Euro . Deal ? I think he's delighted about your low opinion of his work.
As for your shell - I just bought a Fiat Dino. More interesting than another boring replica. Is your mechanic the one with the 128 coupe that was also in Luban for the "rally of the giants" in 2012? Or was that 2013 ??? You migth remember that my 125s broke down somewhere in the mountains with a non-charching battery ::) That 128 realy made a scary noise :-))) Good luck with the sale of the engine! Title: Re: for sale : OGIRINAL 2.0 FIAT 131 SPORT/RACING ENGINE Post by: miro-1980 on August 04, 2016, 01:53:24 AM Well, blame Enzo who built the engine. I think he's delighted about your low opinion of his work. As for your shell - I just bought a Fiat Dino. More interesting than another boring replica. Robert I have the highest opinion of Enzo build engines and actually all of his work. My opinion is not of the engine of Enzo but the client. Remember , you pay for what you want and you get what you pay for .... ask Enzo if he can build an engine for you for 10K , I am sure he can do it and easily justify the cost by parts he uses to build it as well as what is machined and how. You can use standard Fiat unmodified valves and you can use lightweight valves with ask that it is custom cut (three angle cut at the edge). You can buy off the shelf Fiat camshaft and you can order a custom build one , and so on and on. The difference between a standard one and the top part is from 5 to 10 times. This goes for every single part and every single machining operation done on the engine, so do not try to put mi in a defensive position by involving Enzo. Enzo has nothing to do with this - you ordered an engine, gave him a low budget and Enzo did best your budget would allow. You got what you paid for, so the ball is at the customer not provider. BTW there is nothing wrong with a 2 K Euro engine, except its performance and susceptibility to damage under extreme performance driving . I can rev my engine up to 11.000 RPM - can you do it with yours? Rgds. I have just handed over the engine of my Abarth Scorpione 1300 to be overhauled. The body is now away to be painted. I hope to get everything back by december (this year), then only assembly is left for what is by a big margin the most expensive car I have. It would help if the last Racing would sell, but I'm happy to keep it :D To answer your question with regard to Dino engines: they cost up to 15.000 euro to be overhauled. I hope mine is ok. It was overhauled years ago, but hasn't seen any use in the last 5 years... Cars are just terrible moneypits ;D ;D Title: Re: for sale : OGIRINAL 2.0 FIAT 131 SPORT/RACING ENGINE Post by: simon131 on August 04, 2016, 07:52:27 AM Hi Yves - I sent you an email on 27th July about your Racing. ;) Did you see it? :P
