Title: Replica Cromodora cd68's
Post by: 131grp4 on January 23, 2010, 06:16:26 PM
In conjunction with Compomotive Wheels, I am manufacturing a Cromodora cd68 replica wheel - Fiat 131 Abarth replica wheel in 15x7, this will be an LM9 type alloy, heat treated to TB7, basically a motorsport spec wheel.

The price is ?285 each plus vat plus shipping.

This wheel will be a limited run to order only on a first come first served basis.

There is also the possibility of a 8 & 9 wheel being manufactured, depending on interest/demand, these would retail at ?305 and ?325 each plus vat plus shipping.

Naturally the default colour is silver, but white, gold and anthracite, as in the pictures would also be available at an extra cost of ?10 plus vat per wheel.

I have attached drawings/pictures for your viewing.

All enquiries to myself either by PM, e-mail - jssage@hotmail.com or 07971 988 735

Regards

Jonathan Sage

Seems to be a good idea and I hope you get the support from required number of people so that you are able to put these wheels into production ;D Not cheap though at ?1,339.50 plus shipping for a set of 4 'standard' 7" size wheels and will depend upon people's overall budgets I'm sure. How much do you think shipping is likely to be Jonathan?

Any idea yet about the costs for the wider wheels?

Considering the prices being asked for secondhand wheels by some sellers I think these prices for new wheels are very reasonable.

Nice work Jonathon,

The design guys at Compomotive manage to shave metal out of their reproductions to keep them light and still they are stronger than the originals.
Must be the high standard of the materials they use and the skill of the manufacterer  8)

For road use these wheels may seem expensive, but for competition they are more safe than 30+ year old originals (failiures are rare but always a possibility).
Cromodora never made them to last this amount of time and nothing exposes fatigue like the stresses of competition.

In that respect its sound practice to use the best quality equipment available to ensure your safety.

No, ?1,339.50 isn't cheap.....compared to mass produced wheels, but I think you'll find in the world of small production specialist wheels they're competitively priced. I can see that they would be a big part of someone's budget percentage wise but unfortunately it doesn't matter wheather they're for a Fiat or Ferarri, they'd still cost the same to manufacture.

As to the 8" & 9" wheels, I'd love to see these go into production, it's just a matter of interest/demand as already stated.

The safety aspect as mentioned by Gremlino is of the upmost importance, therefor running 34 year old magnesium wheels in anger/competition is not a good idea.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to post them here.

Regards

Jonathan

since i'm always into upgrades more than into restoratioms, is there a possibility to produce those same wheels in 16" or even 17" since wide tyres, over 205 are more easily available in larger diameters?

Enzo,

I don't think Routemarket ones are for sale as yet, although I've been told by someone that they are/ will be 500 euro's each, I cannot personally confirm this.

A web site will be up and running soon and once I have some firm orders, it'll be delivery in around 10 weeks.

Jonathan

I would love to produce the 8" & 9" wheels in a 15", I would then use the "E" marked, road legal FIA Dunlop historic rally tyre, 215/45-15 front and 225/45-15 rear, these are priced at a very reasonable ?130 each plus vat.

8" & 9"

Jonathan,

If I can only fit them under my Stradale arches I would go for 8 front and 9 rear as a minumum .

I believe there is significant interest ion 8"s and 9". I am tempted for the following solution - to get six: 2x7": 2x 8 "s and 2x 9". This would give me two options : a/ 7"front and 8" rear and b/ 8" front and 9"rear.  Both would look a drive great

Please let us know if you decide to make the 8" and 9"

Hi,

Just a quick update, which will be easier if I paste an e-mail I received today:

In answer to your other question however, we are casting on Tuesday, and then if you are very desperate we can send straight to Heat treatment (Unfortunately meaning there will be no castings present for your visit.)

If we were to get these straight to heat treatment, then we think we should have a finished product by the 8th of June, so earlier than I had first expected.

We will still however have the cut up sample for you to see, if this will suffice.

My Best.

UK Technical Sales Executive.

Hi EVERYONE,

Apologies for not getting back to those of you last week with all inclusive costs and to... "take your money!"

This was due to my not realizing that although the casting date was yesterday, Tuesday 25th, it would actually take another 2 weeks to go through heat treatment, machining and powder coating before the wheels would be ready and the time scale was too great in my opinion to hold onto peoples money and work was busy and never found the time.

I'm glad to say that the wheels have now been cast......and I'm thrilled !!!

Jonathan

Sorry to use your topic for the following question, after seeing the link. Why is it that 131 Abarth parts "disappear" in 124 spiders? :( Can anybody tell me?
