Title: GKMR10 Post by: kev131 on March 13, 2010, 09:21:43 AM Sorry if anyone has been wondering what's happening with this but on the assumption that no-one has any objections that I propose a date and venue again... I was thinking of the last weekend in September (24-25-26) and a venue in West Clare.
There is a large hotel on the headland in Spanish Point called The Armada. It has massive parking, awesome views and plenty of eating & drinking facilities. The local roads provide some good touring possibilities with the Corkscrew hill in the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, going North to Black head along the coast, or south towards Kilkee and Loop Head. http://www.burkesarmadahotel.com/ Also Clare is more central for people than Kerry...which got comprehensively outvoted in our earlier poll. The downsides are that Clare is a very rural and agricultural county and the roads are often covered in cow s**t and/or lines of slurry! ;) The other consideration is that the best deal that I can get from the hotel is ?55 pp for B&B or ?79 incl dinner. To counter the cost element we could keep it to 2 nights this year maybe..? If there is interest in this proposal or if people think that the cost is a bit high in recessionary times let me know (by PM if you wish) and I can hunt around for another idea. PLEASE - IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING AND HAVE A VIEW POST IT HERE - IF YOU JUST READ THE POSTING WITHOUT COMMENTING IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO GAUGE WHAT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WANT. THANKS :) Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: markwilliams131 on March 13, 2010, 10:39:43 AM looks and sounds great i be there :D

Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: kev131 on March 13, 2010, 11:50:45 AM I thought somewhere more central was proposed Kevin? maby mistaken but i had Athlone in my head for some reason Gee it's possible but I can't remember Nick...Clare is quite central (although I do admit it's very handy for Seamus and I) but in the absense of anyone else taking up the job, this is a reasonable option I think. If someone else wanted to organise something in another location... I'd be more than happy to take a rest from the organising this year! ;) :) Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: sam22 on March 15, 2010, 10:36:53 AM hi kevin, we will be there hopefully the 131 will be rolling by then.

Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: kev131 on April 02, 2010, 09:28:46 PM Yes indeed - Preferably classic ones..! :)
Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: Kennedy of Sixmilebridge on April 14, 2010, 01:44:20 PM Some good roads to be driven in Clare. Google Corkscrew hill, and there is a good run past all the beaches and harbours on the Atlantic coast too.
Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: kev131 on June 04, 2010, 10:17:41 PM Time to get this moving again I think ...now that we are all friends again..... ;)
I've not been having a great amount of success with the first hotel...so I was thinking of another location. There is the Connemara Coast hotel just west of Galway city which is ideally located for a day trip either back into Clare (Burren and the Corkscrew Hill) or west towards Roundstone and the surrounding area. I did a recce in that area for GKMR08, which we never drove, so I have all the route map already documented. Parking is extensive and the hotel overlooks Galway Bay. It is 4 star so could be pricey but I'll see what deals are on offer. I'll check out the availability and best rates over the weekend and post the details here - After that the ball is in the court of everyone who would like to attend to make their own bookings direct.....as normal. :) Watch this space. Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: 124 man on June 20, 2010, 10:43:57 PM What the latest on the weekend kev ?
Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: markwilliams131 on June 21, 2010, 09:50:35 PM ah lets just go back 2 killarney cheap its a cheap wknd ;)
Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: theredx19 on June 21, 2010, 10:36:04 PM Well I should make it but wont be doing a load of driving as just shy of 5 litres in an Italian beast is not cheap on petrol ::) ::)
Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: kev131 on June 21, 2010, 10:45:54 PM As the Connemara Coast hotel is a 4 star their rate is ?125 pps per night incl dinner. Supplement of ?30 for singles.
I dont think that is in the spirit of our Fiat weekends away and I am enquiring from a different hotel in West Clare - Should have a rate tomorrow. I'm not averse to going back to Killarney - They look after us well but when we held a vote on it last year there was only one in favour of Killarney.....most voters preferring a new venue.....Post your wishes here if you have a view (and if you intend to come). ;) Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: kev131 on June 22, 2010, 07:47:25 PM Connemara Coast Hotel have come back with a really good deal and once I've negotiated a slightly better price I'll post the details here...but GKMR10 will be in Galway this year. :)
Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: markwilliams131 on June 22, 2010, 08:46:08 PM i hope ya do get a better deal .125euro a night thats 500 euro a couple
dont think there will be many takers .also galway is a lovely place but dose it have 2 be so far away its 4 0r 5 hour drive for some of us >:( Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: kev131 on June 22, 2010, 09:04:47 PM i hope ya do get a better deal .125euro a night thats 500 euro a couple dont think there will be many takers .also galway is a lovely place but dose it have 2 be so far away its 4 0r 5 hour drive for some of us >:( I know what you are saying about the price but I think the final new price should be acceptable to most - It's a little bit more than last time but the facilities are much better - Wait and see - I just need to get something finalised before I put all the details up. With regard to location, it's an hour from Limerick which is quite central in the country and about 1.5 hours closer to you than Leenane was. ;) Title: Re: GKMR10 Post by: martyk on June 22, 2010, 09:47:52 PM 3 to 4 hours is only a quick jog up the road try 6hours from Monaghan .Galway is only 3 hours from myself ;D ;D ;D ;D
