Title: 031/035
Post by: mirafiori76 on October 05, 2010, 09:17:27 PM
One day...after winning the lottery...i will get me this one... 8)
We discussed the car previously and somebody said there were made two of them. Now, i didn't know that. But can anyone confirm this?

As far as know there were only two prototypes. Each of every one. Just one 031 with engine derived from Fiat 130 and gearbox from Pantera. And just one 035 with 1400 TC 16V and volumex.
Therefor the story of being build two 031's really draws my attention. Never heard a story of two 035's. But if there is a second one i would surely be interested.

Hi! mirafiori76,

I think, there is no second one each other.
SE035 may be in Italy,
and SE031 is owned by Mr. Shiro Kosaka of Gallery Abarth.
Also SE035 is in Torino, Italy (Probably at factory of Cecomp) now.
It was restored by Volta, finished a few years ago.

Hi Romano,

Yes, I know the SE031 was restored by Volta and placed in a museum. Fortunate, since it was first purchased by a Japanese guy who wanted it to take it back to Japan. Where it doesn't belong. I didn't know the whereabouts of the SE035. Also Luckily that it is in it's home country where it belongs as well.

We have often mentioned the 031 & 035....

http://www.131mirafiori.com/smf/index.php?topic=1206.0 (http://www.131mirafiori.com/smf/index.php?topic=1206.0)

But the truth is I don't think we'll ever find out for sure if the 035 is indeed the 2nd 031 heavily modifyed.
I have not been able to find any further info on what happened to the 2nd prototype.

Was there any mention of it in the Graham Robson book or was that book soley about the Rally?

There is nothing in any of the Abarth books I have  :'(

I don't think Fiat would have modified a 1975 car to 1979 homologations. And look at the tail lights, these are square. The 035 was just another body shell taken of the production line. Cheaper than converting an old chassis. And look at this picture. It was already painted. Another Racing converted? ;)

mirafiori76,

Sorry ! I misstake !
SE031 is not in the museum. There is still in Cecomp.
And I don't know where is SE035.

Hi Romano,

I thought the museum is in Cecomp? But how about the first picture? This is taken right there, not?

Hi mirafiori76,

The first photography of this page, was taken at Swiss (classic car event).
Then SE031 was back to Cecomp in Torino.
Mr.Kosaka had restored "Canguro" at Cecomp,
so SE031 and Canguro were asked to strage there.
Only Canguro came to Japan, and now in "Gallery Abarth Museum".

Hi Romano,

Anyway, i am glad the car is in Italy where it belongs. Since there is only one 031 my opinion is that it needs to be conserved in a museum. As should the 035 as well. Actually, every prototype should.
Thanks for info. :)

I'm sure someday, SE031 will be in Gallery Abarth for public.
Thanks !

Hmm, one of best looking Alfa's i ever seen. I'm not into Alfa Romeo's very much, even after three years as an Alfa mechanic. I'll stick with the 031 ;) :) It's got a much nicer a*s. ;D

Kevin,

I'm always searching for pictures of the 031. Found only one video, but i believe you know that one. It's the interview with, i believe, the owner.
Here is another picture:

Found a picture of the dash. It differs slightly from the ones used in group 4 cars. Also i think these are not the original gauges.

Mirko,

Of course i followed the link you posted about last weekend. Wonderfull pictures. Couldn't resist to download all the pics of the 035. Especially the close-ups are great. Now you can see how terrible shaped this car is.

Notice the differential in the previous picture. It's not the one used on the rallycars.
I love this next picture. How simple it is to put a plate to the doors... ;)

Historic pictures of the 035 are rare.

Have a look at the bottom middle picture on the cover of this recent book by Limone & Gastaldi...

Its an interesting book and sheds light on the true identities of some well known 'badged' cars.

It also helps you tell the difference between a SE032 and a SE034  ;) :D ;)

Do you have this book and could you show us pictures from it?

Title: Re: 031/035
Post by: Gremlino on March 13, 2011, 07:46:21 PM
Hi Mike,

Yes I was bought the book as a Christmas present.

I would post some pics but I think its only fair that I do not poach them from the book as I would not want to offend I'ingegnere Limone, the pictures in the book are from his personal archive and not the main Fiat archive.

Sorry but you'll either have to look online for a pictorial review or buy the book..... it is very good.

I hope you see my point  8)

I did find this written review on an Abarth website...

Hi Mike,

I have looked at both the book covers and in the front and rear leafs and I can find no ISBN number or bar code ???

I thought all new books had them but this book for some reason does not.

The Publisher is Automotoretro and the book is listed for sale at various online locations if thats any help.

Mirko, do you have more pictures from the same stable? Im wondering if the car beside it is g.2 131? It does have rombi corse colours, but the flasher isnt the version they used in g.4

Marko,

The 035 has nothing to do with any other group 4 car. It's a total new concept by Fiat.
