it's going on with reinforce the side!

Hello,

I guess you all know Guy from Begium (Abarth-GMR)

when I convert my 131 Racing to Gr.4 replica (not finished yet) I put reinforcement parts according to Guy 's website which really help body to hold its rigidity and keep fiberglass rear wings tight / vibration free on vehicle.

see attached picture

Hello,

you are right, I remember now (my project was standby for 4 years and I forgot)

my vehicle reinforcement is like this now.

I didnt put ~45 degree vertical one (ı put red lower one like the one in red color) which is in front of the wheel. I dont remember why I did like this? it might be a disturb rear braker air cooling pipes, really dont remember

Hi Enzo,

The bodywork looks really nice. Is the dark blue the final colour? Personally i think that would be a shame. Ofcourse i d on't know the plans of the owner, but if he is building himself a Stradale replica then red, licht blue or yellow would be better.
But if he is after a group 4 replica then all white would be the thing.
What about all those dark red spots everywhere?
Keep posting  :)

Hi Mike,
the owner would like to make this "look pic"!
he did the body paint in RAL 9010 white.
the fibre parts are black not dark blue
at moment the shell is paint with white primer and the red spots are anti-rust paint.

Hi Enzo,

So it's black. I thought it was dark blue from the pictures. :D
It will be a Alitalia replica? That's nice. I once had one. Was a real headturner everywhere i came with it.
I'm sure, after all i have seen untill thus far, the owner will make himself a beautiful replica. I will keep following your thread. ;)

Hi Enzo

This build is a credit to your efforts.  I'm sure the final car will look great.

Can I ask if you removed and replaced the sills as part of the rebuild?  I have checked the pictures and I can't see that any strengthening was added at that time.  The original 2 door shells have an extra 'diaphragm' plate behind the sill.  This extra layer was added by Fiat to the Sport/Racing shells.  I'm not sure if the same was true on the basic 2 door models, but Fiat considered it necessary to add extra bracing in the door aperture.  This measure would help to reduce flexing in the shell.

The extra layer is only present between the A pillar and the B pillar.

Thanks
Duncan

Duncan, I assume you think this topic is about Enzo's car? It isn't, Enzo is reporting on a conversion carried out in Austria.

The diaphragm part you mean might be the plate between inner and outer sill, as pictured in upper part of the 1st image below. This is a part of every 2door (and 4door) shell, not only used for Racings (this new specimen provided by Yagmur). See the deteriorated original part in image #2  :o

Hi Robert

All 2 and 4 door cars have the middle sill shown in your picture. Good to know that Yagmur has new ones!

The picture of the blue car with the sill removed shows the extra panel.  The middle sill runs from the A pillar to the rear wheel arch.  The blue car then shows the extra layer which runs between the A and B pillar.
Look at the holes on the middle sill.  Then look at the blue car.  The holes on the extra panel are round.  This extra panel is curved to fit halfway between the middle and outer sill.

This extra panel is fitted to Sport/Racing shells.  I have never had the sills off a 1400 2 door, so I'm not sure if all 2 door shells had this strength added.

In version gr.4 the front is not suitable, as it is also wrong the mold bonnet and boot.
It is usually better to take only the wings gr.4, while the remaining kits that of the road ;)

Shows how much work these fibreglass parts can need to make them right!

jesus willie that bonnet on your car is a genuine abarth bonnet supplied to me that time from Mick Woods, it was from the spares that were supplied along with the 2 safari cars he bought  ...
hope you didn't go to heavy with the fibre glass.. :'(.
Genuine unmolested bonnet you got there..

Title: Re: From 4 door to 2 door Abarth Stradale!
Post by: 124AC on February 25, 2013, 08:59:27 PM
The bonnet is made from polyester resin which will deform with heat.  That is why it has slumped.
If you put it back in the heated booth with a flat support under that part of the bonnet, you can bend it back into shape.  Try using a small plywood support stood on a wooden block to hold the bonnet up at this point.
Be careful not to try local heating.  You run the risk of melting the paint.
The whole bonnet needs to be allowed to cool while it is still supported.

Good luck
Duncan

How high did you heat the bonnet? I have never seen this before and i did paint some of these bonnets before. Once i tried to bend a bootlid directly with a flame...didn't give an inch :o

Enzo

Hi,
I need the reference to black color to paint the interior of the car, around the motor and suitcase.

The white is RAL 9010 White, if you tell me what the reference to black i apreciate  :)

Thanks

Can you explain to a non mechanic what the wrapping on the exhaust pipes is Enzo...I've seen that before somewhere.

Also the bolts..?  :)

Thanks......

Can you explain to a non mechanic what the wrapping on the exhaust pipes is Enzo...I've seen that before somewhere.

Also the bolts..?  :)

Thanks......

"There are 3 main reasons for header wrap"

1. Looks nice

2. Less radiant heat, cuts down on heat exposure to bodywork, this helps greatly to reduce underhood temps.

3. Performance....
Header wrap retains the exhaust gas heat IN the pipe, reducing the passing by air from dropping the temp until it exits the pipe. The reason for this is increased exhaust gas velocity.....heat moves towards cold due to it's higher pressure....example, in your bathroom, turn on a space heater and run the shower full hot, leave the room and close the door, come back in five minutes and open the door, you'll get blasted in the face with the heat build up as soon as you open the door.....
The reason for wanting this effect in your engine is INTAKE SCAVENGING. For a few degrees of crankshaft rotation at the end of the exhaust stroke and beginning of the intake stroke, both the intake and exhaust valve are slightly open, this is called valve overlap. Overlap uses the speed of the exhaust gas as a "vacuum" to help draw a fresh intake charge into the cylinder, the faster the exhaust gas speed, the more vacuum you have to stronger draw more of an intake charge into the cylinder. This results in an increase in both horsepower and torque.

And if it is applied to the pipe PROPERLY, it looks great!!!  ;D

"Also the bolts..?"
i think flue gas connection is the word take some measurements about the exhaust temperature or emissions analysis of exhaust gases per cylinder!

And PROPERLY, also this looks great!!!  ;D

Excellently explained for a non native English speaker - Thanks Enzo.... :)

The material must be quite special to be able to withstand the high temperatures. In theory, would the performance effect be improved if the entire exhaust length was wrapped? Maybe that's what has been done?

It must have been on your car that I saw this modification first..... :)

but the parts will be the problem!  :-\

hi Enzo
I have the pieces, I just have to prepare them,
here, the body shops are not interested in this kind of work ... no time ... not interested ... or to make you flee, a price that comes out of the eyes!
France is well known for its loafers!
I think I can do this job, but it's the lack of time ...

Same problem in all west Europe, many mechanics aren't skilled enogh to do metal work, so to do it better charge so much they don't get the job!!.they only interested in changing to a new fender/wing...

I know of a few who took their cars to Poland, where there still is some skilled old mechanics who know how to do metal work on a car!!

Cheers Alf

if you find one that tells you yes, even paying too much, you're not sure that the work is well done!

in Poland ... not at all near my home !!!
