Actually I dont think an R plate is correct for that series Graham!!! Only joking! What would I know....?!

Agree that the colour is a very personal thing but great individual looking cars nonetheless!!  :)

Got to be one of the best looking rears they put on a car  ::) dont think todays computer designed clones will ever be this good again. She came over with very well fitted seat covers on, i dont think anyone has actually sat on the seats themselves for a very long time if at all as once uncovered i could not believe their condition, un=marked! As I said I had many of these in the early eighties, always loved their looks, although with the heavy rake on the windscreen, italian seating position and being 6 2 it did mean not being able to see past the dash while on the move, made parking a "joy" ::) and yes they rusted in front of your eyes but all was forgiven as soon as you fired them up and the engine settled to the familiar slightly un-even slightly noisy Alfa twin cam noise while on tick over. Blip the throttle and watch the lovely center mounted tacho burst into life, hear the twin 40s under the bonnet catch their breath while still cold (never used the choke or fast running levers) then "slurp" into life, pure Italian music . This is why we love them! G

I'm not that into Alfa Romeo (not even after working as a mechanic there for three years), but this is a very, very fine example. I like it. Is that a standard color? Nice. :)

Alfa's are a funny thing, definately not as "tough" as Fiats or Lancia's. Everyone I have ever owned had strange things about it and yes the deaded electrics could play up (never put a 75 V6 through a car wash it will have a mind of its own for ever after ???), yes they rusted very badly in the UK (one of my Suds pedal mount went through the bulkhead one day while sitting with my foot on the brakes at a set of lights!) but they just have something about them. We had the local Alfa Romeo club man pay us a suprise visit the other day , he loved the car and confirmed that although very rare the colour was an original colour and he had only ever seen one other. Wow, the ALFA looks like new  ;)   I had a '86 GTV6 (in red) for a while, it was super fast.  Bought as a non runner.  Had to change the head gasket(s) and do some welding but that's nothing new  :)

Always wondered if the V6 was just a couple of cylinders too far from the original design.....sticky rear pads ate the rear discs unfortunately..and along the same lines as you mention  - I made the mistake of putting it through a car wash - it broke down 10 mins later obviously.....

It's coming back to me now.

It is a hatchback, but the rear seats don't fold.

I would have to disagree with you about the GTV6, I have had a few alfa's the twin cam alfa's are nice but alfa V6 is one of the best engines of all time.

Alfa made the V6 engine for it's alfa 6 is was not a very good seller for them, but when alfa put the Busso V6 into the GTV for it's 1980 revamp they made a very special car. The 1980 revamp for me is a better looking car. The GTV6 can be very expensive to look after, I have done a good bit of mileage in two GTV6 a S2 & S3 and they have always been reliable and the day I picked up my S3 GTV I drove it home 600 miles what fun that was, worth every penny.

The GTV6 is the alfetta that makes the most money now and will go up in the next few years as they are rare there was only over a 1000 RHD's sold in the UK new and most of them have rusted away now.

For me the GTV6 is a symphony of Italian engineering.

I think that the Alfetta GTV's are somewhat undervalued alfa, so buy one now before they go up in money ;D

Must agree with the Alfa V6 sentiments. One of the best Alfa's i owned was a 75 with a 3liter V6 in the front, blinding car just did not like car washes  ;D But back then i paid ?100 for it as the clutch was slipping, so who cared if it un-locked itself as you walked away, just to re-lock as soon as you walked back key in hand, or turned the radio on at four in the morning when parked in the street. I loved it.  ;D

Being an Alfista for 35 years now (my first Alfa was a 1975 Alfetta 1.8), owning the "Princess" (see below) since 1986 and having fallen for the "Bella" (see below) in 2011, I strongly agree with this statement. The Busso V6 is a marvelous engine, nearly unrivaled in the 6 cylinder range. However, I would not underrate the twin cam engines; treated properly they can live much longer than anyone expects, and don't forget they are the blueprint for the Fiat twin cam engine  ;) (if my memory doesn't fail me, the designer was one Aurelio Lampredi...)
