Title: 131 Sport wheels
Post by: Thotos on February 01, 2007, 10:21:47 PM
The standard steel wheels on my 131 Sport are beginning to look rather tatty so I am considering changing them to alloy ones. But as well as being a grumpy old man most of the time, I am a fussy old man all the time. I don't like anything modern and I don't like anything with too much 'air' showing and I don't like wheels with a negative offset....

I've seen 131s with BBS wheels that look very similar to ones fitted to BMW E30 or Mk1 Golfs (see photo below). But they won't fit a 131 unless wobble bolts are used and fussy me doesn't want to do that. They would also need the centre bore machined out to 58.1 from 57.1. So unless I can find a set of BBS wheels with correct PCD of 98 and correct centre bore of 58.1 I would stay away from the BMW/VW wheels. Maybe if someone knows they can tell me if BBS made wheels similar to the ones in the photo with a Fiat fitting.

I also like classic Cromadora wheels as fitted to 124 Coupes, 125s, etc but they tend to be 13" and I'd like to stay with 14" or at a push go up to 15".

All suggestions and advice on wheels that will fit my 131 Sport will be appreciated. So please give me suggestions and show me photos if you can.  :D

Thats a good question Theo and one that has been taxing my mind as well - Especially as ongoing attempts to get my set of alloys finished is dragging on.? :-\

I think that I would like a set 15' Abarth alloy wheels although I cant remember seeing a Sport with those wheels fitted.

This first photo (13') seems quite a common after market fitment - Photo specially selected to suit your colour car at no extra charge!? :D

The Pirelli Plus1 option is another style to look at (14')? ???

Not sure who makes this style but I have seen it on a 131 more than once... :)

The next ones look like the 132/125 Alloys (13' inch?)? :D

I like the size of these but maybe they are a bit too modern...?? :-[

132 Bellini alloys...?? ???

FC's old car...(rest his soul)? :)

Mmmm....these are nice...!? 8)

I can just imagine what you think of these...!? :o

And the best til last.... ;D? ;D ;D ;D ;D

Lovely if you could find a set!

Of course what I think you should do is to just reburbish the existing wheels in the Supermirafiori style that you have - They are very distinctive, suit your car down to it's socks and are more original than any BBS/other make that you might consider.? ;)

Thanks for all the photos Kev.  ;)

From your collection my favourite by a huge margin are the ones on Frank Church's car. They look very much like BMW BBS wheels to me so I'd like to know details on those. If they are a straight fit on the 131 then I'd love a pair.

What's happened to FC's car? Who's got it now?

Here are some pics of those wheels if they are your favourite.

I'm afraid I lost touch with the car after it was sold. I believe it was bought from an advert in Auto Italia but that's all I know.? :-\

These Rondell wheels will fit

And they are available in a "Fiat fitting" 6,0 J x 14 H2 4/098 ET37 (even though the photo shows a five-stud wheel)

Can be bought direct from the manufacturer at http://www.rondell.co.uk/moreinfo.php?design=46

SIZE  WIDTH        PCD    BORE     FINISH               OFFSET     PRICE
14       6.0          4X98    58.1    Silver / HP Silver    37          ?288.49

or for a bit less on ebay at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/14-FIAT-ALFA-RONDELL-4X98-ET35-ALLOY-WHEELS-6X14_W0QQitemZ120039529085QQihZ002QQcategoryZ28648QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

But they are bit too modern for me and far too silver....

I found these old (need refurbishing) Multi hole, split rim 15" x 9" alloys.
They dont look modern and suit the car well.
Some money will have to be spent refurbishing them at a later date, for now im waiting for some 32mm spacers to arrive so i can position them better in the wheel wells.

9" wide wheels are OK if you have Abarth Forest arches on your 131. My car wouldn't take anything that wide  :-\

Are they really 15" those wheels? Your car looks as if it could easily take 17" at the back.

15" they are with 225 tyres on!
Rear of the car is comming down 40mm and the wheels out 32mm that should make it look a lot better.
Currently she sits too high at the rear (see photo).

These look so right on your car...and the photo is only 10 months old.

Are you sure that you want a non-standard look for your car?

dragging up an old posting...

Here we tried some 7,5x16 ET30 with 205/45r16 on the 131 of a friend:
(We had to put him on the car for some extra weight so see if clearance is ok ;D )

Fits perfectly inside and out in the rear, front hasn't been tried yet.

I am surprised they fit. And they look very good too!

Hi guys
Theo-i take it they are 14 inch rims on your sport - I can see you have them painted in supermirafiori colours i.e silver and black
Now i could be very wrong here but i thought that that all sports came as standard with 14 inch steels with pirelli P6s and coloured a metallic bronze throughout the entire rim without the cross panels coloured.
When i had one of my 131 sports I fitted the lancia beta coupe 8 spoke 14 inch alloys but instead of the 60 profile tyres i put 70 series on and in my opinion looked good-I would love to show pictures but you have probably already seen the other posts explaining  :)
Personally i think putting modern day alloys on your splendid steed would be a mistake -the 13 inch cromadoras dont work either -been there done that -but do look good on a 127 sport-but thats for another site one day   ;D
wish you luck -its all about personal choice - ask the wife  ;D ;D

Hello Curt. The standard wheels on a 131 Sport were 13" with 70 profile tyres. The 14" wheels with 60 profile tyres were an option but I believe all UK cars were supplied with the optional 14" wheels. The "Supermirafiori" colours as on my car were also an option on the Sport (which has wider wheels than the Super) but not a popular one (in the UK at least) as I've only ever seen one other Sport with wheels like mine. The reason I was looking at alternative wheels for my car is because my steel wheels are beginning to look tatty and I can't get anyone to refurbish them, otherwise I am perfectly happy with the look of the current steel wheels.

In my search i came across these that were similar to the lancia beta ones i had fitted -cheap as well at the moment-dont know if they are of any interest
will keep on looking  :)

Thanks for the link. I am not sure they'll suit the 131 and I suspect postage from Italy will make them prohibitively expensive.

You've dragged up a very old post Jason!  :o ::)

I think I'll go back to the darker grey "steel" colour though as the silver is too light....  :-\

I am no expert but on the plus side I believe the Lancia Beta rims are 14", 4 x 98 and magnesium alloy making them very light. On the negative side they are a front wheel drive not rear wheel drive offset.

Correct on all counts!  ;)  The wheels are extremely light magnesium alloy and they are 14 inch and 4x98pcd so a straight fit on the Fiat 131. My car is fitted with the larger discs (and callipers) from a Fiat Bravo so 13 inch wheels won't fit, they must be 14 inch (or larger). To counteract "the negative side" of the incorrect offset, the wheels are mounted with solid alloy 8mm spacers. But that creates another problem as the rear hub-centric ring is just 8mm so with the spacers fitted the wheel effectively sits flush on the hub and spacer. Perhaps I should have replaced the wheel bolts with studs and nuts but I decided to use high tensile steel bolts instead.
