Title: 3ma17 30/05/2017 - 02/06/2017
Post by: Thotos on January 22, 2017, 12:04:27 AM
3ma17 dates are now confirmed: 30th May to 2nd June 2017

We are close to finalising a deal with the 4* hotel Seerose in Fuschl am See (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuschl_am_See) near the headquarters of Red Bull (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Bull_GmbH) (which we hope we'll be visiting).

Our biggest problem every year in negotiating the best deal we can is knowing how many will join us. So if you are joining us, or even if you are just considering joining us, please post here and let us know.

We have arranged to visit the hotel and recce of the area at the end of February but we are confident we'll have the hotel deal sorted out before then.

WATCH THIS SPACE  ;) :D

Chances for Team Ineptitude to attend are extremely low. Why?

- Too close to Bavaria 2013 - been there, done that.

- Too little time to make arrangements (arrange days off from work, find a place for the dog).

- We'll take part in a regularity rum from Bohemia to Dolomites in mid May. Why? Because the itinerary is very attractive, as we also go 2 days through the Dolomites.

So, if anything, I might drop in for a day from Munich (me alone, and without the 131), but even this is not sure. Maybe next time you'll announce earlier where and when 3MA18 might take place - 6 months in advance at least, better even earlier.

Sad to miss the company of good friends  :(

Sorry to miss your company Robert but keep an open mind and we might convince you to join us  ;D Dates were announced last year and we promise not to drive much further west than Salzburg and not into Bavaria  ;D ;D We need you and Ingrid for the 3ma17 photo-book!  ;) :D

I'm sure a lake view room will be possible Phil.  :D We have a good offer from the hotel and we have reserved a number of rooms but we are still finalising the details, mainly their cancellation terms. Simon and I will visit them at the end of February so it may be that bookings will not start until then.

A 'must visit' place in Austria is Hangar-7 in Salzburg. Owned by Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz is not a hangar in a traditional sense but rather a multifunctional building with a collection of 25 historical airplanes, helicopters and Formula One racing cars and is home of the Flying Bulls, an Austrian aviation team, also owned by Mateschitz. It houses a restaurant, two bars, a lounge and aircraft, and is open to the public. It includes the Michelin starred restaurant Ikarus. The building is airfoil shaped, constructed of 1,200 tons of steel and 75,000 sqft of glass surface. Only the best cooks are employed there so apparently the best place to eat in Austria! And I'm told the coffee is not bad either  ;)

We might even visit a Salt Mine  ;) https://www.salzwelten.at/en/home/ (https://www.salzwelten.at/en/home/)

We should certainly visit Hallstatt (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallstatt), a village so pretty the Chinese built a copy of it! Located  in the Salzkammergut  region in Upper Austria on the eastern shore of Lake Hallstätter See.

Hallstatt (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallstatt) is known for its production of salt, dating back to prehistoric times, and gave its name to the Hallstatt culture, a culture often linked to Celtic, Proto-Celtic, and pre-Illyrian peoples in Early Iron Age Europe, c.800–450 BC. Some of the earliest archaeological evidence for the Celts was found in Hallstatt.

Salt was a valuable resource, so the region was historically very wealthy. It is possible to tour the world's first known salt mine named Salzwelten, located above downtown Hallstatt.

Postalm Scenic Drive

The Postalm scenic road was opened in 1988, and is always kept in excellent condition. It’s a toll road that connects the villages of Abtenau and Strobl and it promises unique views of Salzburg's alpine world. We’ll be able to enjoy views of the Bischofsmütze and Dachstein Massif. The Postalm is actually Austria's largest area of contiguous high pastures and Europe's second-largest high plateau.

Looking forward to all of this year's 3MA activities!  8)

As Theo states above, he and I intend to check out the Seerose Hotel and thrash out the best deal possible, at the end of February so we are hopeful that the weather will be kind to us in our little hire car! :o As you can see, the hotel has the usual comforts that you've come to expect from the "3MA Experience", and is set in a wonderfully dramatic location.

Sorry that certain of our 'regulars' are unable to attend this year - it will be a different group dynamic, but none the less for that. Here's hoping we can get some new attendees to enhance the numbers. ;D

I have enough to build three cars at least!
But it's the time I miss!
I have already missed the 3MA16  :-\

Besides, I see  the duration of the event is very short ..

Made a lot of time and miles for 3 or 4 days there ... no?

3ma meetings have always been 4 days long from the first one in 2007. Some of us need 2 days to get there and 2 days to get back so we end up with a week's holiday ;) But the getting there and getting back can be just as much fun :D

Title: Re: 3ma17 30/05/2017 - 02/06/2017 UK Ferry offers
Post by: Thotos on February 05, 2017, 09:56:38 PM
Whenever the 3ma is held in Continental Europe, we try to get discounted ferry tickets for anyone traveling from the UK. We have two different offers available this year:

1.   DFDS Ferries: Enter discount code EOBTHANKS for a 10% discount on any of their routes.

2.   We have created a Club account with the discount Travel company Team Coordin 8 (http://www.teamcoordin8.com). You need to call them and speak to Dane or Donna on  01904 766 787 or email them on info@teamcoordin8.com  and quote our special discount code TC8103. They will then get you the best deal possible on any of the ferry companies.

Just 1 week to go now!

The UK 3ma convoy, also known as "Team Ryle plus guests"  ;D  will be setting off next Sunday morning. We have arranged an overnight stay in Harxheim in Germany where we'll be meeting with some 3maers who will sadly be missing in Fuschl this year. Presumably our route will be as shown below and most likely we'll be going via Stuttgart after Harxheim (although we could also go via Nuremberg). We should be leaving Harxheim around 9:00-10:00 am on Monday 29th May so if any other 3maers are likely to be in the area at that time we could meet somewhere and drive in convoy to Fuschl am See  :D

Thanks for all the thanks guys 😊 It was a great event and so good to meet up with so many good friends and make so many new good friends.

Link to photos once I sort them out. But I have very few driving photos this year as I was always leading the convoy 🙄

Took a while to sort and rename the pictures to have them in correct order for upload - only to found out that google can't do it alphabetical; so arranged them again...

Hope you can enjoy the result.

Team Ryle - England South (Hampshire) arrived home safe and sound at about 21h30 last night, with Team Ryle - England South (Surrey) arriving home about 45mins earlier. Both 131 Specials performed well and delivered their respective crews to where they needed to be  ;D Both the alternator and the radiator cooling fan motor packed up on the yellow S on the journey out but both were sorted whilst away. The blue car collected an M10 bolt in the nearside rear tyre on day two but it was fixed and put back into use in short order.

I think Theo should take most of the 'Thanks' as it was he who prepared the route books, stickers and plaques, so THANKS THEO!  ;D 8)

I was happy to take the lead at the front of the convoy for the two days driving back home - but I think I need to download the latest maps on to my TomTom as a couple of times we were driving in 'open fields' without roads! :o
