mmm, all welding done, but you can not see what or to what quality in the photos. ?1500 is too much of my money I'm afraid, unless you have seen it and it really is a good shell. Also it's blue? Has it been resprayed then? Obviously not after the welding as the front valance needs more doing to it.

Whats it worth??

Well, I would say a restored sport is worth about ?4000 - ?4500. So if this one were to cost ?1500 then that leaves you ?3000 to spend on it. And looking at the pics it needs probably an endless list of stuff done to it. At an estimate probably a ?2000 paint job, then the front and rear suspension and brakes are all likely to need replaced, roughly ?400 - ?500. Then the engine will need recomissing, all the belts will need replaced, head gaskets, oil seals, bearings, carbs will need cleaned and re-set, alternator and starter will possibly need reconditioned, and maybe water pump and fuel pump will need replaced. Anyway at a guess you could probably spend another ?500 on the engine. A new clutch kit and exhaust would probably be needed along with new headlamps and tail lamps, probably another ?250. Not to mention the nightmare in trying to find/source any interior bits that are lost or missing.

Anyway my estimate of spending on what the car needs comes to ?3250 plus a mountain of work and having restored one that needed all of the above I know it is a big challenge.

So giving those figures I would say its worth ?750 - ?1000 tops.

Hope this helps, and guys feel free to correct anything.  Grin

?1,500 for a car in this condition seems pretty expensive to me, even if it is a 131 Sport. Perhaps I'm no longer 'in touch' with the values of the 131 Undecided

well you guys are in the know, i am years out of date i could tell you the value of the celica 20 series & parts but as i am new to this forum i am really out of touch with the values of a 131 sport, i have the ability to restore it although dont really want another 5 year rebuild, so i am just looking for advice on what to do bid or not? i want a 131 sport but not a dunkel, lol.

It depends on how desparate you are to own one and whether you can do the work yourself. They don't turn up so often over here in blighty.

I'd be going over to look at the car and then you'll know how much more work is needed to finish it to the standard that you want. You should have a better idea of what to do then. Smiley

If you were paying someone else to finish it off,i wouldn't bother unless you're feeling flush. Grin

Sid,

To be very honest I shouldn't go for this one at this price but that's my idea! You pay 1500 pounds for the remains of what once was a 131 Sport and start with an almost endless list of to do's on that.  I know personally what it is to restore a car  out of a basketcase, it takes lots of time and trailerloads of money. Not to say the parts still missing you find out when you are halfway the project. I should look at least at a complete car instead of starting what ended as somebody elses nightmare! Does the engine run at leasty properly, how are the back axle and gearbox? Good doors, worn interior, cracked frontwindow? When you count everything including welding, changing, spraying etc the bill will be far higher as the value, EVEN WHEN IT IS A SPORT!!
You better eventually wave goodbye to RHD and look for a decent LHD example. I saw one in Italy wit aircon for 5000 Euro. You can enjoy it almost immediately, it is highly original and complete.

But this is only my opinion after looking and searching(and finding) for a lot of years.

Simon, you still know pretty well prices, don't worry. Don't fool yourself with idiotery which is also on the market!

Greetings 131 Sport friends!

Sid,I would agree 100% with what Albert is saying.Something will turn up out there. It would be easier to buy a good LHD car and convert it to RHD.This is only my opinion for what it's worth.Eugene

Converting from LHD to RHD on a 131 should not be a problem. If you have a scrap RHD 131 your laughing as you can swap all the parts over and see any differences which need to be corrected.
