Abarth leads the way !

WWW
« on: February 21, 2009, 12:16:59 PM »

GUYS,

(SEE UPDTE - BOLD RED - AS EXPLAINED BY A TOP 131 EXPERT)
[/color]

NEED HELP WITH PARTS IDENTIFICATION

( As you my quickly notice I am far from being an expert on diffs !!!_

I HAVE THREE SETS OF C&P ( ALL ARE FACTORY SETS) :

# 1 SUPPOSEDLY FOR 131 ABARTH (8/43) -(not abarth not identified yet)
# 2 SUPPOSEDLY FOR 131 ABARTH (10/43) (Original Abarth)
# 3 SUPPOSEDLY FOR 124 SPIDER (10/41)  -( Fiat 124 spider)

QUESTION:

The #1 and # 2 ( supposedly for 131 abarth) seem to have different grooves along the back
of the shaft. They also differ in length and different diameter for the end screw.

How to interpret this (for different models? Not for abarth ? Which one if for 131 abarth?

How come the shape of the grooves on # 1 and # 3 is exactly the same ?

How come all the pinions are of different length ?

Can anybody provide guidance ?

Miro

last one looks same as for lada. 10/43, 10/41, 10/39, 10/37 and that should be exactly the same as on 124. i suspect that they're for different diff housings

Thanks,

I will post pictures from the whole rebuild process (from engine  built  to suspension and diff installation).

But now I realised that once I am done I will not be able to drive it on a regular road (it will be 100% sports car, great ona track but no more crusing ...  Sad).

Well there is always my 124 spider ...

For your 131 you need this Look.  Roll Eyes

I find it on a Seller-market in Italy.

I can get a 126p for 100 euro (drivable !). But if one wanted a nice one you arewe are talking  1500 - 2000 (mint).

I had three of these and I am sort of not very interested. Cry

Like the : VENDO MOTORE STRADALE COMPLETO PER FIAT 131 16 V, PREZZO ?.15.000,00

Actually assuming this is in a state allowing repair , it probably is not so expensive, or is it   Huh. For a complete head alone one guy wants *k Euro  Undecided  and 6 K for the diff gearbox.

Anyway abarth is an expensive hobby ...

Thanks

Crazy is the name of the game ...

I have given up on the 16 v head  and the Kugelfisher but still have my eye on restoring it to include the original
diff  and rear inderpendent suspension. (Hope to get this done in April. just got lucky and got the diff at a real
burgain price - could not resist.)

Re : gear box : I am very shy of colotti as they are not known for reliability : I ma looking for something  with
close ratios but not streight gear set.

An finally : LSD.

With this ( assuming we can make it ll work and be reliable under rally conditions I will stop - or will I Roll Eyes

These prices scare the living daylights out of me miro! Shocked The price for the engine is more than I paid for my whole Stradale Shocked. I think I'd better revisit the insurance policy details and up the valuation Wink

On a serious note however, I had my diff refurbished two years ago, new bushes, bearings , etc and it cost me about ?400 sterling which I didn't think was too bad at the time. Seems like a bargain now.

About 18 months ago a crown wheel and pinion for a 131 Abarth appeared on ebay for about ?500 and I didn't bid. Wish I had now. Roll Eyes

Yes Simon,

It is better to revisit the insurance policy details and up the valuation, you see what the Parts are cost
this time.
Engine:15000 ?
Gearbox:2000 ?
Differential: 4000 ?
Kugelfischer: 5000 ?

and, and so on!

It is Better to buy an Original Stradale for 44000 ?

You are a lucky guy,? you have one Original 131 Abarth Stradale.

Enzo,

The prices vary : I got my diff (for Euro 2K) with a spare crown and pinion for 250;

The cost of almost 30 K for engine, gearbox, diff and kugklsischer means that the rest
(practically a chasis serail  number plate)  is 14 K.

Well this is ..... (expletive , deleted)   EXPENSIVE !

This is a known truth that if we brake up our cars into parts they woud cost double
of triple the money that we could get for the whole car. How do you thing currently
the big auto makers are making the money - by selining cars - think again ...
it is the parts ...!!!  Roll Eyes

The other element that very few of us ( if any) of us can come up with 44 K euro at a time for a 131 abarth
original warack and another 50K get it rebuild.

It is the poorman's folly  ;DS.

So we spend time and money to collect all parts we can and then but them together
in the best way we can.  The only thing I can say: mine will be the "most original"
131 abarth replica in Poland if not all of New Europe. (Where the car never ever even drove.
To the bets onf my kjnowledge no original 131 abarth was ever driven in the  boundries of
former Eastren Block. I know of one 124 abarth being driven by Andrzej jaroszewicz - a son of Polish prime
minister and a rally driver of the orignal FSO rally team (a friend of mine owns it now, and show it off once
every few years ...) , but no 131 abarth!

There are some very nicely done ( i.e. by Walezy ) and driving like a rocket, but  I believe there to only few which
would use only fiat and abarth parts or remakes of such parts (no LSD from BMW , Mazda or Toyota, Ford gear
box etc. ). All parts are  vintage or remakes of vintage and only same model. The difference except for 16v head
will be slight differences in front suspension ( I am missing the abarth reinforced front, suspension parts, have
standard speering of 3,1 instead of 2.8 lock to lock. ... Also the wheels  I have CD 66 (13 ")  while the original
had CD 68 (15 ")  and the rear side windows are vented (for conveniance of fighting with inside heat while driving
in hot summer days).

All the markings are vintage correct (no stickers for later Ritmo or others)

Not really much more.

As I said when we were rebuilding it we bought altogether 5 donor 131's ( and took everthing
from them). Ssee picture of some of the donors being stripped to bare metal ... )
plus one 131 racing we used as base.  So now even all cables are hanging on original fiat
plastic hangers, 99 % of the screws nuts and bolts are original fiat .... As75 % of the parts
in 131 abarth were standrd 131 parts this is as original as one can get ...

Miro

The rad car  (under construction) in background of some of the pictuires is the car I am driving today !
I dare call it an Original Replica !

Talking expensive look at this : Thermostat (low opening temperature) advertised as a 131 abarth part
("Fiat 131 ABARTH rally 16 V Thermostat Neuteil ! ") - for 146 Euro delivered!

http://my.ebay.pl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyeBay&CurrentPage=MyeBayWatching&SessionId=0&Watching.Page=1&MiniSubscriptions.Page=1&ItemSimilarToRecentlyEnded.Page=1&Bidding.Page=1&Lost.Page=1&SubmitAction.ChangeFilter=x&View=Watching&ssPageName=STRK:ME:FLTR&NewFilter=Active

I bought one exactly like this- a regular part for 131 but made for tropics - for 26 Euro plus 10 Euro shipping.

Difference of 120 Euro on such minor part . If the seller will but say 100 of these I will deliver it at 100 Euro a
piece including shipping. He can than sell it at 146 with handsome profit of 46 Euro a piece. ( at 100 Euro a piece
I can have the made brand new!

Note that the guys selling such stuff are not people like us (collectors) who trade what we do not need to those
that need such parts but open market vultures and predators - feeding on us - the collectors and fiat fans.

I believe a boycott of such guys is in order!

M
