Yes, I have somewhere.

I hate to say it but I think the RS 'won' that particular test.  Roll Eyes

I did my own identical test with my brother's mate Julian Bland back in about 1992. He had a black RS and I had my black 131 Sport, JPD, that we had just fitted a new rear axle in Roll Eyes. Took pictures up on Chobham Common one Sunday afternoon - I'll have to try and dig them out, haven't seen either the pics or the road test for years and have moved three times since 1992! Shocked

I have it J - I think it's one of the best 131 Sport tests especially as it is pitted against it's deadliest of enemies.

Actually the Fiat won Si, despite a higher price (?4635 v ?4416 - Custom) and slower acceleration to 60mph (10.1 v 9.3 secs). The tag line went something like...

Fiat's refined 131 Sport tangles with Britain's top hot shoe special the Ford RS2000 and proves that back street brawn Italian style is the thing to beat!

Love to see those pics of the 2 together if you can drag them out... Smiley

I stand corrected.

I'll see what I've done with the pics. Could be anywhere. Roll Eyes

The 628 grey mettalic also came with black seats, so in a black & white pic it could be grey, silver 620 or orange 255.

i went to local tarmac rally last weekend, i came home thinking what a pity Sad
i did not see 20 or so 131s in the rally, i did however see at least 20 mk2 escorts with 3 in the top ten beating mitsubishi evo9 and subaru impregnates
backup with spares in the paddock was endless, and on the stagees the mk2 looked the biz on every turn,
applause to walzey and miro and any other out there campaigning 131 on the rally stages and reminding rally fans of the 131,

Gerry its all Fiats fault they dont give a damn about our 131s i cant for the life of me think why anyone supports Fiat by buying their modern cars,
they should be able to give a back up service for the remaining cars like toyota did, if for any other reason just for selling the crap that they did rust etc, you can get any part for the escort thats why there are so many, boycott Fiat i say until they provide us with parts!!!!!!!!
Rant over.

Escorts are well supported because they have a very large fan base. A lot of the parts available for Escorts are remanufactured by specialists because they know they can sell the parts. Ford do not make parts for old escorts. The Escort forum has over 4000 members and the RS owners club has 14,000 members! Our 131 forum has 353 members! Escort owners will pay ?800 for a grill and ?1300 for a bumper while most 131 owners want to pay under ?1000 for a complete car. It's a bit of a catch-22 situation really. There must be a large number of cars available to warrant the support and spares but without the support and spares we can't get a large number of cars on the road.  Undecided
