Hello all,

I ve been reading this forum some time now but never posted since I was busy reading all of the posts here from the very beginning.

I guess it's about time I make a start.
I own a 1600 Mirafiori special with only a few modifications (twin Webers, somehow lowered and alloy wheels)

I recently discovered one unwanted modification (by the PO probably).

The starter motor sometimes fail to engage. It hits on the flywheel and after a couple of tries it starts the engine. It is not the solenoid as I first thought.

After removing the starter motor I found it's got 11 teeth.

Is that the correct one? It is a Bosch (and not Magnetti Marelli like on my previous 131 special 1300).

Oh, by the way, the engine is 125BC 000 1600 and not the original 1300cc. (also changed by the PO).

Thanks in advance,

George.

hi
have you check the teeth on the fly wheel ring gear ,are they worn on the edges or missing teeth ,
if its happen before , the stater motor would have been replace but never the ring gear and the new starter motor then get chewed up in a while again.

Thanks a lot guys.

At least I now know the starter motor is the correct one.

About the difficulty to engage I also start to believe that it should be the flywheel.
There is a gap from where I can check its surface while cranking.

I 'll do that and come back with news
