Am i right in saying there were two shades of the gunmetal grey on the uk 131 sport. Im getting a price for full respray nxt week some time and want to make sure. Hope to get it done mid 2010 early 2011 at the latest depending on price and timescales.

Not sure about the sport gunmetal colour in particular but in general it is common to find a few different shades of each colour. There is often not much difference in between each one but it is a pain if you are doing a repair rather than a full respray Roll Eyes

well 620 is silver which some call light grey & 628 which is dark silver or dark grey whichever way you look at it, but according to any info i have at hand & from memory there were only silver, silver grey, orange & black colours avaliable for the 131 sport/racing.

There are usually variants in every paint colour The main reason being that in the eighties some companies well ford anyway didnt always mix their paint vats and so the pigment fell to the bottom and the result was different shades of the one colour

Paint code isnt on the sport vin plate, always on a sticker on inside of boot lid on the right but sticker sometimes missing or sprayed over and as you say Nick the code is 628 gunmetal

Ok so im looking at Silver grey code 628 Gunmetal for the colour then.
If i look at inner wings and inside boot it looks to be a darkish grey rather than silver.
I still remember my brothers mates one 16 + years ago and im sure it was a darker grey 628 rather than the 620 code...

He did say that was the price based on just his visual inspection any other stuff he came across would be extra Sid.
I have a small chip on the windscreen so he said i would need another as it would prob break taking it out for the spray job.
because he has a commercial spray shop im not convinced he would take the time and full intrest in the job. ie he might rush it to get other cars in.
I need to get hold of another couple local sprayers and see. The right person doing as a homer would be the way to go.
Dont mind paying extra for a job that looks good and lasts.
