Abarth leads the way !

WWW
« on: January 05, 2010, 01:39:37 AM »

I was seeking 1300s parts as they shared the same rear suspension . I thought the Fiat 2300s was just another version of 2300.

Until I looked it up.

Actually was it is is 2300 s Abarth

These are possibly more rare than 131 abarth corsa's.

Steve ,

I thank you very much for your input !

RE 2300 / 2300s.

I did not know that  all they share with the 131 abarth is the diff's crown wheel and pinion.

Re Fiat Commercial vehicles,

again I believed they also shared the diff itself but it looks like it is limited to C&P

RE : Rear hubs for the corsa/grp4 different from the stradale.

There were many variations in the rear brakes, and most of them related to hand break.  I have done a compilation of these changes . Maybe interesting to some ...

RE :unique axles

This is one of the toughest issues in rebuilding

RE : CV joints the same as a V6 alfetta / porsche

Do you know which Porsche ?

Steve,

this is most valuable again and I thank you very much.

I need to resolve a lot of issues in the process of going through this stage of building my replica .

Unless I will obtain a complete original 131 Abarth suspension (and there is a pale shadow of a chance this might happen) I will have to go for second best.

Suspension is related axles and CV joints, and axles are these are related to brakes, brakes are related to wheels and wheels are related to diff and gearbox rations, etc. , etc.

I will be making a lot of key decisions in the text few weeks.

This outcome will be decided - on one hand - by the issue of originality (replicating originals the best I can , making sure that it is in accordance with or as close to homologation, same technology/materials/design assemblies are used).

On the other hand I will be facing availability issue which is pretty much beyond my control.

Ultimately it will be a compromise between originality and availability.

Well all I can say : I m counting on the support and advice of people like you and other members of this forum. Just wish me luck (and a fat bank account Grin).

Miro

Steve.

I am a bit more advanced than it may sound , but thre is still a lot in front of me.

This is a picture taken recently showing the first dry semi fot of the rear diff/ suspension assembly.

Now I am just a bit moire advanced from the time the photo was taken.

We are going slowly but moving along a bit every day ...

Miro,

I have to echo SteveC's comments here. That set up looks almost 'stock' for an Abarth. Must have cost you a fortune to obtain that diff! Grin Shocked I could just about afford the refurb of mine, although to be honest I could really do with a new Crown Wheel and Pinion for mine. Have spare Racing/Sport CW & P but not for the Abarth. Undecided

I had to replace the rear hubs/wheel bearing carriers on my Stradale back in 2006 as they were shot, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that they are the same items as used on the Lancia MonteCarlo (called Scorpion in the USA) as I had to purchase a pair at almost ?180 each Shocked My mechanic purchased them from the Monte Hospital in Cornwall, England I believe. Certainly did the trick.

The problem I seem to have is that the car eats front track control arm bushes. Lost count of the track rod ends I've had to replace on the front - but I suppose this is because whenever I do get to drive the car it gets put through it's paces and I'm not exactly a lightweight even if the car is Grin Shocked Grin Cheesy

Miro, what rear springs are you using? I realise that your shell is a Racing shell and therefore the springs won't be the same as I need for my Abarth but it would be useful to know where you got them. I'll need some on my car before 3MA10 that's for sure. Wink

Simon

Looking forward to the summer when I can use the car again. Grin

Well,

it turned that the diff , was the single most expensive part , but when you count a;ll suspension elements altogether it is not close the the cost of the rest ...

Re:Cw & P; there is on ebay . Considerng the prices they go for this is a good deal ( 340Euro) - go for it !
