The spare gear box i have is from im quite sure a 132 2000tc or possibly the later 131 Supermirafiori 2000tc with the angled gear stick.
Q, if i ever have to change my original sport gear box due to failure. Will the spare 132 box i have work on the sport.?
As the Sport gear box has a different set up with Abarth quick shift.
 and the straight stick.
Q,will the main gear box be the same and just a case of taking the abarth gear change and stick set up of the existing box and fitting it onto the 132 box ?
As i have looked at a picture of my spare and a picture of a 131 sport  box.
The spare does not have the back section with the Abarth stamp and straight gear stick.
Thanks

The later 2000TC Super had a remote shift like the Sport - just didn't have 'ABARTH' cast into it, so if the gearstick comes out at a jaunty angle could be any smaller engined 131 or a 132 box or even a 124 or 125 box come to that.

I recived  pics tonight of the engine from my mate.
It says 132 on the engine block its a 132 2000tc engine so the gearbox was sold to me with the engine so it will be a 132 gearbox.
So my question of will it work, still stands, Anyone ??

As far as I know the gearboxes are the same except for the gear lever. Off the top of my head I don't know if the gear ratios are exactly the same but the box should fit.

It says 132 on the engine block its a 132 2000tc engine so the gearbox was sold to me with the engine so it will be a 132 gearbox.

132 on the engine block doesn't mean the engine came out of a 132, depending on the numbers and letters after the 132 it could be out of a 124, 131, 132 or a variety of other types. Not necessarily 2 litre either!

106, too many uncertainties in your first post for anyone to say for sure.

The engine 'type' should be stamped on the block near the engine number. This will be a quick and clear indicator as to the size of the engine.

As I was alluding, and Taz confirmed, having 132 cast into the side of the block tells that it's a 132 'series' engine and could in all reality be a 1756cc from a 124 Sport/Spider, a 1995cc from a 132, 131 Sport or 131 Supermirafiori. In fact it might also be a 1592cc from a 132. Check the engine type.

132 engine type numbers are as follows

132 - 1600 and 1600 Special                    132 A.000 (1592cc)
132 - 1800 Special                                    132 A1.000 (1756cc)
132 - 1600 GL and GLS (early models)     132 B.000 (1592cc)
132 - 1600 GL and GLS (later models)      132 C.000 (1585cc)
132 - 1800 GLS and ES                             132 B1.000 (1756cc)
132 - 2000                                                132 C2.000 (1995cc)

Even if the engine is proven to be a 2000 from a 132 then there is the chance that the gearbox could be from an different rwd Fiat and was made to fit by changing the bellhousing.

If you are certain that the gearbox is from a 2000TC 132 then the internals should fit the 131 Sport gearbox but I believe the 5th gear was 'taller' on the 132 to allow motorway cruising without making your ears bleed.

Dave i  double checked my picture and amended the numbers on my previous post as they are on the block sorry for the mistake.
I hope when i get the correct engine number  and type above the oil filter and post detailed pictures of the box someone can confirm the gear box question.
Until then its a guess like Simon said.

David,

You're just muddying the waters with that because the Sport engine is a type 131 B2.000 , it is not a 132 type despite 132 being cast into both the head and block. All very confusing.

Also, the final 2.000 doesn't necessarily mean that it's a 2 litre either as the engine type 131 C2.000 is a 1600 (1585cc) single overhead cam engine as used in the Series 3 CL, whereas the 131 C4.000 is the 2 litre Twin cam as used in the Series 3 Supermirafiori.

Also, just to totally blow the mind - if you're still interested at this point Grin - the Series 1 bodied 131 Brava in the USA was fitted with an 1800TC unit which had engine type 132.A1.040.5 or .6  Roll Eyes

That's it - lost you all now.

106 - if you can confirm the engine type from the block (stamped into it rather than cast into it), above the oil filter housing then it should give us a bit more to go on. Cool

Simon

Should be, according to my information Nick Smiley or do you know it to be something different?

Engine type and number are usually stamped on the block just above the oil filter housing on a twin cam engine, but not always. You know Fiat - they'll stamp it anywhere, and sometimes not at all! Roll Eyes

Simon have 3 more engines & just checked the numbers on them one is 132 c2000 & the numbers are stamped above the oil filter & above the engine mount & another engine is 131 b2000 stamped above the oil filter only cant get at the final engine as its well covered but i know its 131b 2000 so all 2 litre engines, the one on the engine stand has had a lot of tuning work done on it so should be fun.
