Is it possible to convert a stock 131 ohv points ignition to  electronic? It is a Marelli S147A point distributor
I have seen the above ignition pick-up set for marelli  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FIAT-124-SPIDER-131-BRAVA-ELECTRONIC-IGNITION-PICKUP-/350090953686?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item51830c03d6
 and the above electronic modules
 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fiat-124-Peugeot-505-Renault-R18i-New-Ignition-Module-/350320929940?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5190c12c94

Most aftermarket kits feature similar pick-up sets & module  plus uprated ignition  coils (3ohms).
Is it possible to do so in my stock distributor?
If not which is the most reliable electronic ignition conversion for the above engine?

Hi Fi,

If i understand you correctly your question is if it's possible to put an electronic unit in the housing of a contact point breaker ignition? The answer is no. Because the axle differs. The one with pointe has 4 round edges on the axle and the one for electronic breaker has sharp ones. You need to exchange the whole distributor unit. You need the electronic coil unit as well. When you have the whole complete set you cab exchange it without any problem.
Hope this is the answer to your question.
Cheers,

Mike

I put a 2Ltr marelli dissy in a 1600ohv engine, the advance curve is different but it worked fine when I had it, and the coil wiring was a straight swap

Pertronix do a conversion kit if you want to keep your standard distributor.

So the problem is the axle, but can you clarify what exactly you mean by axle?... not the shaft that is inserted in the crankcase.
Otherwise i pressume that both electonic and point distributors are interchangeable. They share the same shaft and gear .
Altough it seems rather difficult to source an electronic distributor and a coil in nowdays
Any other  reliable suggestions like the pertronix kit  ,to change from contact to electronic ignition?

Yes, i meant the axle that runs from the top rotor all the way down to the gear. You just need a complete distributor housing.
