First of all a big thanks to my very good friend Simon131 who provided overnight accommadation and temporary car storage along with ferrying to/from the train station..and Reading. Oh and a hearty cooked breakfast from Wendy. Believe me Si, having your help made the whole business so much easier and pleasant compared with any previous foreign trips to buy a car. And the craic we had afterwards in the garage left a big smile on my face...as did the power delivery of your very capable 535d!!!  Wink

First impressions of the 131 are that the engine, gearbox and back axle all felt and sounded good and about right for the recorded mileage of 62000 miles. Everything worked and the car didn't mis-behave other than a pull to the left probably linked with poor wheel alignment. Brakes had a high pedal and pulled the car up straight - The front suspension felt tight following the previous owner's improvements although the rear probably could do with new shocks.

There are some rust areas, one particularly notable in the boot rain channel. The rest appear to be scabs but they will all be investigated. The paintwork looks OK in the pics but in fairness will need a complete paint job in time. The headlining is a bit diapppointing in that it is sagging everywhere with a cigarette burn in one place. To be expected I guess after 31 years.... The seats are remarkably good although the driver's seat is missing a securing bolt.

Plans are to get it mechanically assessed for anything that needs doing - I want the car driving perfectly with all the usual fail areas such as pumps, belts, hoses etc all renewed. Then I'll tackle the body.

Other plans are to convert back to standard grill/headlamps...and I'm toying with the idea of adding a set of extra round spotlamps above the bumper...A lot of Supers had this mod in Ireland and I like the look - I'll think that one over.  Smiley

If anyone has a brand new RHD offside rectangular headlamp for sale I'm very interested please. I also need the rear nearside brown trim that clamps the carpet in place where it meets the cill. Current one is broken. Also a new twin tone Fiat horn. The standard one is weedy.

Where body parts are concerned, I definitely want a drivers side rear quarter panel.

If available at reasonable prices, I'd also like a new bonnet, boot lid, S2 rear panel and both front doors.

I'll keep progress updated on a new project thread in due course.  Smiley

Naw - Not my taste Jason - The original Fiat look is generally what I go for... Smiley

Interesting design though - I believe they came from Malta....

Those wheels weren't to my taste either.

I would revert to the square headlamps too if it was me Wink

Looking forward to seeing its progress. Will it be going to Holland/Germany in a week or two? Cool

Kev,

I had a superb Saturday 'playing 131s' with you, mate! Grin It was my pleasure to have you stay - no-one else quite understands my '131 disease', unless like you, they share it! Shocked Cool Cheesy.

Your new Super looks great behind my Abarth. The Abarth doesn't like sitting all alone in the garage without her Special best friend  Grin so your Super is helping ease her loneliness until Special returns home - or is it just me? Wink Cheesy

I love 131s - whoever owns them - and I'm pleased to be able to help you out during your purchase and repatriation of the Super. Can't wait to see it back to full health and in full use. Cool
