Who knows me to say exactly what is the weight applied to the inside of the transom motor having all the Fiat 131 (Abarth included) supported by two screws?

this weight is mounted to reduce secondary harmonics so can be balanced the engine harmonics to the frame or chassis!

I always thought it is to avoid resonance frequenties off certain masses....
this could be triggered by certain engine noises etc resulting in strong vibrations of parts with the same (resonance) frequency
modern cars often have these added blocks to change te frequency
(correct me if I am wrong)
I think Enzo is right, it is more theory then practice... Grin

I never understood why they put this piece of lead into the cross member. Anyway, i always took it out. It reduces over 3 kilo's of weight and it does nothing off to the balance, handling or performances.

Check the manual in parts, I do not find this particular as a spare, yet it is only common on all 131 series Huh

The lead is the weight in your pockets trying to pay for the maintenance on that model, but the curves look like it would handle, so could be worth it for a few years until the rot sets in.
