M5
« on: September 22, 2013, 12:23:30 PM »

Simon

I know our conversation ended prematurely last week, just as we were about to discuss BMW 5 Series.

Having just caught up on recent weeks activity on the 131 site, I see that you have changed your 535D Sport.

For a 2011 M5 Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Grin Cool Cool Cool

Wow; could you post some pictures / details.

Hi Rob,

Yes I bought an F10 M5 about a month ago now - but I'm not shouting about it as there are those out in the big wide World who would construe any such thing as showing off - which anyone who knows me will testify, is one thing I am most certainly not! There are also those who will say that all BMWs are boring, well to those I ask 'have you ever driven a 560 bhp super saloon?' because if you have you'll know they are anything but boring.

Its a December 2011 in Silverstone II (sort of bluey-silver) with Silverstone extended Merino leather interior, 20" five spokes, reverse assist camera, HUD, speed limit display, 4 zone digital air conditioning, etc., etc., but the real reason I bought it is the 4.4litre twin turbo V8 coupled to a seven speed double clutch semi-auto, driving the rear wheels pushing out 560bhp and 680Nm of torque. It's a beautiful car to drive without a hint of turbo lag and is laugh-out-loud fast. 0-62mph in 4.3secs - which I think is quite good for a car that weighs almost two tonnes. Don't ask about the fuel economy though - it's frightening.

I won't be keeping it long as the running costs are seriously high, but the M5 is something I've aspired to for the last 10 years at least and when I was given a chance to 'own my dream', after a great deal of thought and lengthy discussion with family (and it was them convincing me, not the other way round), I went for it. I'll post up pics if this thread doesn't get slaughtered - but if it does Rob I'll PM you.

Cheers

Simon

Sounds wonderful, and I would definitely hang on to it. We are all car enthusiasts on this site, and I doubt if anyone on here is not interested in 560BHP and 0-60 in 4.3 Seconds Grin Grin. Therefore it certainly should not be 'slaughtered'.

Incidentally a few months ago 'I bought back' my old 5 series from my Father. Originally I bought it 6 months old (ex demo) in 2007 and sold it to my Father in 2008 when I went to the Gulf. When he expressed an interest in a change of car, having only done 20,000 miles in the last 5 years it would have been a shame for it to have been traded in.

I was always very fond of this car (preferred it to the 525i SE that I had as a company car afterwards) and it has done 3,000 miles in the last month including a trip to the south of France.

Can't wait to see the M5, and makes me think a 530D should be a priority for me Wink

I wouldn't worry about adverse comments Simon...especially as you can moderate! Wink

Seriously, I'm sure that every one who knows you on here is only too happy to see you realise a dream and ....admire your financial committment...especially to the UK Exchequer where fuel duty is concerned!  Smiley

Looking forward to the pics and some driving impressions here.... Smiley

Very very nice. I fell in to the same trap in 2009. I bought a 4dr M3 in Silverstone II as well in 2009 with the intention of holding on to it for a year mainly because of the running costs. The 4.0 V8 is thirsty and the road tax a killer but 4 years on I still have it. As there's only 15900 miles on it, making it very hard to decide - do I keep or does it Go. I think you are in the same pit now my man. Once that V8 gets under your skin it's there for good. Resign yourself for a long term relationship. Good ones are always the most expensive ones as well :-(

Like to see some pics also.

No Reason for any slaughtering, that's a proper enthusiasts car owned by an enthusiast.
I also would love to see some photo's.
Sounds like a beauty.

Kind regards

It is an interesting enough car, but this is a proper 131 enthusiast forum, you start posting other types here and this forum with become diluted and go like the Irish one did.

It's in the general discussion section. It's about a car and we're all car enthusiasts Wink

Point taken but I don't think what may have happened to certain other forums will happen here.

I agree with TOAD. This is about the 131. I have no problems with mentioning other types from Fiat or related marks like Lancia. But topics about BMW or any other non-Italian mark just don't belong.
But that's my opinion.  Wink

Looks like it's time for Theo to set up a poll regarding the discussion of non 131 and / or Italian Marques.

Mirafiori Man's Comments summarises the whole issue.

We do however need a poll.
