Unregistered Fiat 131 for sale in Italy

We always thought one was out there     and here it is. Unfortunately while it is the desirable Supermirafiori it's not a Twin cam!

Looks like it was seized from a failed Fiat dealership and locked away - Just 237 kms from new.

Eye watering price for what it is though, colour, doors and fuel not in it's favour. Anyone want to venture what the selling price might end up at although we'll probably never know. I reckon 50% of the asking might be realistic.....

I know it's a tough one.....even if you dropped in a low mileage TC engine it's still pretty limited appeal due to 4 doors and colour.

Lots of diesels still going strong in Spain.
To be honest I think it's a good buy at say ?8K.

Do you know what they are like to drive Steve...acceleration, handling and braking? Noise (NVH) even?

I'd be worried about the additional nose weight causing understeer ...and dive under braking...and generally being less willing to change direction.

We had two B6 Passats at the same time a few years ago, one 1.6 petrol and the other a 2.0 diesel. The difference in front end bias was noticeable even in a well designed and sorted suspension...at least compared with a Fiat 131....which I dont imagine was designed to carry such a large capacity engine. 

It's very interesting to discover but lots of very low mileage "ordinary" classic cars come up for sale nowadays and I dont recall seeing one with such an ambitious price as this...so I don't see it selling at that price level.

This car is slow, also compared with my 1367cc twin cam, 0-100 km/h in 18 seconds more or less. But has a lot of torque, and can ascend a climb with no noticeable effort. You can't say the same of my 1367cc. Engine runs smootly and final ratio is 12/43, same as 131 2000tc, weight ratio is 58% front. Power steering was standard. Those cars in the day used to fit 185mm tyres to fight understeer. They where considered excellent for towing.

I think you have to accept what it is a 131 diesel. It's not a sport so it won't drive like one. It's the lowest mileage 131 I've ever seen for sale so that's it's selling point assuming it's real life condition reflects that delivery mileage.

As to value it's hard to say you can ask anything you want but its how much cash is handed over that counts.

The diesels I see here all have a tow bar.
A good chugger I would say, certainly not a quiete car, I have been in an old one and pleasant it wasn't!
Still a new one with that sort of mileage, a good buy I recon.
Lots of recommissioning work, certainly the brake rubbers and seals would all need doing, all fluids changed, and if possible pre charge the lubrication in the engine.

A unregistered new old stock car is "not in the same league" as a car that has been used & registered Kev

This kind of car would be bought by a museum or privately owned car collection, I do know of a unregistered 300 KM Fiat 126 that sold to a museum for ?15000 around 3 years ago

You can't restore a car properly for that kind of money

And if you do restore, it migth end up better then "factory condition".

It truly would a "bargain" if you would get it for around 10.000 euro.

The only problem is that you can't use it.  Every mile you drive destroys the value, even registring it would do so.

The alternative is that you drive it for the next 20 years... the engines are good for 300.000 and more kms...
