I think its something like if you see 04 on the VIN plate its 1978

05 is 1979
06 is 1980 and so on I think that's how they done it

Alan,

131 Sport/Racing production ceased in September 1981 regardless of registration date. Many shells were left out in the open for months before they found new homes in 1982 and later.

Irish 131 Sport / Racings sold well into 1982, I wonder was any sold in Republic of Ireland in 1983 ?

I had a Nov 1981 Sport and the build date was 1979 - I found this because they had stamped dates inside the door handle on the drivers door. Which at the time was a shock when I found it but answered the question why it had rust I had to get done in 1984. Hence why I stripped the car down.

I checked this out on a couple of old log books, on an august 81 registered 132 I had the chassis number begins 05 so it was made in 1979 which makes sense as don't think the 132 was that popular in UK but on another car a late October 1982 registered 131 super the chassis number begins 09 (1983) !  and on a fiat regata registered in aug 85 chassis number starts 07 (1981) !! either its an early RHD prototype or their year stamping was haphazard ? Where as my 1980 131 sport is 06 (1980) and sold in sep 1980 so that checks out.
