One of my Beta buddies has told me of a tuned 112bhp 1600 twincam engine and gearbox for sale. The engine seems to me to have Fiat cam carriers with Lancia covers so should be OK for mounting vertically in a 131. The link to the post on the Betaboyz forum is http://www.betaboyz.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=4020.0 but I think you need to be registered on that forum to access the thread. So here's a copy of the post:

This has come to my attention through a tenuous link, but I have no connection with the seller. I went to have a look this morning however and the the seller seems a nice chap.

The engine is in a track day car- Lotus 7 type- and runs through a Fiat 131 gearbox. Sump, cooling and ignition are custom and the engine has twin Weber DCOE 40 carbs. It is however internally standard at the top, although the bottom end has been balanced and the flywheel lightened by a local motorsports specialist. The claimed 112bhp on the rollers looks right to me.

the owner Ian faces a dilemma- when he started to but this together in the late 1990s, 112bhp was enough and, while at 500kg or so it is quick on the road, things have moved on and everyone else now has 150-200bhp running Ford Zetec or Bike-based engines on the track. He has spoken to Guy Croft and understands what can be done and what it might cost- to still be short of the competition. Hence it makes financial sense to sell and swap the engine.

The engine runs smoothly, with no smoke and I could only see a small drip from a core plug which may go away when warm anyway.

Video on link below.

Hi,
I know of a fairly well built 1600 twincam with twin 45 carbs high lift cams dry sump etc.
It’s been used in a track race car.

If anyone is interested I will find out more.
Regards
Alan.
