Up to ?1200 when I last looked but this is probably way off the reserve price - I'd estimate that even with some bits of the engine missing it is worth ?4k - Looking at it's condition it looks like a well maintained (except for the motor!! ) & original car.

Obviously one would have to have a closer look but if you are after a clean and original Sport this one is certainly worth a look!

I looked once again more carefully to the advert. Guys please look also at the bidders and history, they all share the same kind of *** in their ebayaccount. It is on my risk that I suggest it but in my opinion the seller tries to high the price up. This adresses I also saw with the 12.500 car also shown here in for sale and wanted when it was on ebay 1 or 2 weeks ago. That was without limit and now the car is for sale at mobile!?

We all dream about a topbuy for beer money but please stay with two legs on the ground!
I am almost sure that this car comes up for sale too at another german site, most probably mobile.de or autoscout24 after theebay "auction" is finished.

It looks like a genuine WR to me but Albert may dispute if they were made in 1980 or not. I suspect they were but am happy to be corrected.

Genuine WRs are very hard to find in this condition. I've seen very few presentable cars over the years which must mean that they were made in limited numbers. Having said that I've always thought that they were a cheap and cheerful "tart up" job created by Fiat to further capitalise on the rally success at the time. A bit like the end of range tomfoolery that many manufacturers did in the 80s - I think Ford was the biggest culprit with the last Cortina making endless versions to clear the decks before the Sierra. Maybe the WR version is not quite in the same league but it has that feel to it. Is it worth more than a genuine but otherwise standard Sport? I cant really say without many cars coming on the market but I cant see it commanding much of a premium...and some buyers might be put off by the extras, especially the wheels & the side stripe!

If the car is a genuine solid car with original bodywork which on the little evidence available seems to me to be the case it is certainly worth ?4k / ?4.5K even if there is a little bit of work required on engine ancillaries. It's at ?3k now and has appeared to have reached it's reserve with almost 6 days to go.

One word of caution is that with well known websites like Autoscout 24 & Mobile.DE available to sell the car, it's my opinion that you get the better class of car on those sites and sometime Ebay can be used to offload anything with a dodgy element to it - I could easily be wrong in this case though.

If it was me though, before I bid to that value, I would?ask for evidence of absence of rust starting with pics of the underneath of the doors, where the door frames meet the main body of the door, all of underneath, where the A pillar meets the roof line, the suspension turrets, the crevices of the boot and bonnet, etc. If that all stacks up, ie, no rust, consistent panel lines, consistent paint shade and you get a chance to speak to the owner about how the car drives and get a feel for any major faults, it should be worth ?4k even if you have to trailer it home - another ?1k? That converts into ?3750/?4125 - You could not restore a project car to this standard for anything like that price in my opinion. Plus you are getting extra parts, a very rare car and elite membership of the Orange Boys club!?

If I may also add my tuppence worth here.

I'd have to agree with Kev in part, in as much as being put off by all of the stickers and 'add ons'. Whilst I quite like the occasional boot spoiler , I think the WR version of the Sport is spoilt by the side stripes. Theo and I met up to go through 3MA routes,etc., on Saturday, and were both of the same opinion on that.

I also don't believe that the WR version is ever so much more desirable than a 'standard' Sport. Personnally I'd rather pay 6,000 Euros for a good, standard Sport that the same for a rough WR version.

I was recently toying with the idea of parting with my Racing, but to be honest, it's totally standard, spent all but the last two and half years of it's life in Italy so is totally rust free, and whilst it could do with a respray (the car was continually washed by it's last owner in an automatic car wash with rotary brushes ), I paid very little for it - which I now see as a bargain. Where else would I get another in the same condition for the same money? It's also UK registered now, so I don't have to go through that 'pain' again!

As with every old car - buy on condition and instinct. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is!!
