but you ain't seen nothing yet! i've got a new favourite fiat. this one blew me away! fiat 125 coupe! 1.6l tc 100hp 1967. -1977. I have to look for more info, but there were quite a few nice wagons coachbuilt on normal saloons, think about Alfa's Giulietta and 75 and Lancia Fulvia. Those cars were built in the late 70s and early 80s.
Fiat has a long history here. The assembly plant started to produce cars in 1960 in Buenos Aires and trucks and agricultural vehicles in another plant the city of Cordoba. Since then has produced a lot of cars. This includes diferent versions of models like 1100, 600, 1500, 1600, 128, 133, 125, 147 (127 in EU). More recently they produced Regatta, Uno, Duna, Tempra, Palio and Siena. These last 2 are currently being built along with IVECO heavy trucks. Other models come from Brasil like Punto and Linea (a Punto 4 door). For me, the nicest thing they ever built here was the Vignale 1500 Coupe. Before buying my 131 I wanted to buy one of this but they are too expensive this days. I just got corrected by my wife which used to sell the Polski Fiat to such exotic places as UK, Iraq, Egypt (asselbly plant) and Bogota, Colombia also an asselbly planty ! PS: a funny unknow side story. When our guys started a demonstration in Bogota of a Polish made ( STAR based) fire truck it want on fire. The German team trying to sell their Mercedes fire truck congratulated our team -prematurely- thinking this was a sales trick. The Gernans believed this was an ingenious sales gimmick that certainly would win Poles the contract. They were wrong . As it turned the Polish truck paint job was so bad the it looked dull, like if it was covered with an inch of dust. To improve the looks our mechanics covered the truck with a thick layer of a vary flamable gel, which made the paint job look fantastic. A quick spark set it on fire. (The trusk had zero water on board!!!). The Germans had to intervene and bail us out. Needless to say the Germans won the contract. Bottom line : looks is imporatnt , but first make sure it works ( drives) properly , looks come next. I would say a good one of those 125 Coupe could be around U$S8500 as you will find in this Page:

A good restoration project I think you might find for U$S2560 like the one shown here: http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-47552237-fiat-125-coupe-_JM Spare parts are easy to find and not very expensive here. Tere are a lot of 125 still runing aorund. The problem is when you have to visit the body shop and you can expect A LOT of rust in these vehicles. Regards Title: Re: strange south american fiat Post by: djape1977 on February 10, 2009, 12:23:40 AM there's an idea brewing in my head since i first saw that car... with a strong euro vs us$ and shipping cost of 1200$ that could mean that an decent example of 125 coupe/sport might cost me around 5k euro. and the alure of it is that there's not a single one like that on this side of atlantic ocean!
