This car would have to absolutely immaculate for that money, because thats the kind of price it would cost to restore one to a high standard.

Maby he is is in a different world but if the car is rust free then ?? & if it came to Ireland or Britain & was to be converted to Rhd that would cost a lot also, but Mark williams has mentioned the black sport in we seek them up for ?15k so would it be a better buy if its a clean 131 & Rhd? & in my experience there is always hidden rust, so how could you value this car without stripping at least some of it so see whats there?? maby the owner knows its good & can prove it, if so 20k you could spend  restoring a 131 sport no problem & if not doing the work your self much more.

the car may be a bit expensive for me anyway, but think what mark 2 escorts were/are making and in comparrison to the 131 sport are pretty common so if the car is truly as clean and genuine as the add says it will be worth it to somebody, also it can only help to increase the value of all the other 131 sports out there, after all it is practically impossible to build a fake sport unlike the  escorts,

Well if I knew I could have bought a good one for that money I would have as 25k into my one and it is only starting to look good enough, sure spent nearly 1500 on cutting disc and grinding discs ::) but look forward to giving a good hard run  ;D

Not many Escorts sell for 20,000. Just as not many people have 20,000 to spend on an old car (or a new one for that matter.)

I certainly (if I had the money, which I don't) would not be buying it without going to see it and giving it a thorough inspection!

Always nice to see a really good example of a particular car.

Hector I hope 1500 on cutting discs is a joke, otherwise I recommend buying a Plasma cutter it will work out cheaper.

Has the car got any specail history with it but as Sid says how much would it cost to restore one of these cars but if love a car you will pay the money as in the last few years too many people have been treating classic cars as investments and not as peices of pleasure. If people want to invest in metal try the comodity markets, if you love cars try the classics for sales in the paper....

I just wanted to show that 20K seems quite a bit too overpriced for me. I expect also nobody pays 10K for a Racing(yet) or it should be new from the box.

But this is the thing 5 years ago what was the price on an abarth and now even a rough one seems to command a premium.....

Albert & Dave good clean restored properly all rust gone gone & treated 131 sport/racings will go up in value, they have to because imo the not so well done ones will become a burden & scrapped or abandoned through time, & these yokes being so rare to start off with! so i think that its a investment to do one properly & only one unless you have pots of cash doing nothing.

If Fiat bring out a model that plays on the memories of the 131 20k for a good rust free example will be considered cheap sure look at how the prices of the 500's went on the launch of the new version....

so rare to start off with!

Unfortunately rarity does not equate to high values. Look at Lancia Gammas, only a handful left, but still worth nothing  :'(  And look at my recently acquired Trevi. Just six left in the UK and apparently mine is the only automatic so you can't get much rarer than that but still worth nothing  :'(  But that suits me fine because it means I can afford to have special rare cars that are not only a superb pleasure to own and drive but also don't get lost is Sainsbury's car park when I go shopping. Many years ago in the very early 90s I had to drive around in a Ford Orion for a couple of months  (don't ask!  :o it was a bad time...  :(  )  and I felt terrible not just because it was a terrible car but also because I was driving something so common. In fact every single person that saw me in that car, regardless of whether they knew me or not said "that car doesn't suit you"  ::)  Mind you, the stereo in that Orion was superb.  ;D :D

God I remember when a Gamma was worth money but that was when we had a brand new one 2.5 injection and back then the road tax was heavy on a big car and she was parked beside our new black 127 sport but who said the early 80's were bad times...

Lancia gammas?? who cares?  Fiat 131 sports are a sought after car & people have very fond memories of them they were the biz back in the day & thats why a 131 sport will always be worth money, mention a 131 sport to blokes in their 40s & see the reaction, where as a lancia gam i didnt know what that was only that you have one Theo.
