I got this in for a few jobs today, its a 1982 1600CL and the owner bought it in 1985 when it was three years old and his used it ever since as a daily driver, its never had a cambelt and he has only done some welding and a resray and basic maintenance as and when it needed it.
The jobs I have to do on the car are
1) fuel filler neck corroded
2) iginition lock as somebody bodged the wiring
3) jumps out of third gear sometimes
4) convince him he could do with a new cam belt and tensioner

Can you imagine buying a three year old car now and still be driving it in 26 years time ?

Its this rubbish camera (bad workman blames his tools  ;D)  Will take a couple of pictures tomorrow as its dark outside now.

Sounds like half the jobs i had on mine when i got it ,
 use a diesel barrel on ebay europe, 3 pin conecter ,
 and weak spring on detent ball for selecter on top of gearbox (live with it )
a plate under front pulley 2 or 3 bolts for timing belt .
 

Owning the same car for 26 Years ;D If it is a nice Mirafiori and it serves your needs why not :) However I have had my BMW for 26 Months and would love to see the back of it :o I treated it to a new set of run flats yesterday as they were getting worn and I have some big trips coming up in the next month. It decided it would not engage gear (Automatic) this morning >:( :o. Warranty Taking Care of the Problem. Mondeo replacement car surprisingly nice  ;) My Mirafiori NEVER let me down 8)

In 1988 i bought a 1980 1600L which became my replica Abarth. Last year i took it apart for total restoration. 3 more years to go  ;)

Well, I bought this one in 1986, this makes 25 years now  :) and it never ever let me down!

I have bought my series 1 in 1996 when it was 22 years old... I still have it after 15 years... 10 more to go :D :D :D

That is one seriously nice Racing :) Perfect. I remeber my 79 V having about 7 previous owners when I bought it in 1990. Seems now they don't change hands as often. Why change cars if you like what you have. My BMW is back  :D and with its electronics fixed and new tyres I remember why I like it so much  :) Fast and Comfortable with Sharp Handling.

The trouble with modern BMWs (and probably most modern cars come to that) is the dealers not the cars themselves.  ::) :( When BMWs (especially 5-series ;D) are properly sorted and set up they purr. I love mine that's for sure - that's why I'm now on my 7th 8) :o.

As for 131s not changing hands that often - I reckon it's down to economics. Even if you own a basket case, these days to buy any 131 at all costs a small fortune, even if it's damaged or rotten, so it's better to keep what you already have and try to save up enough for the resto.  ;D This, coupled to the fact that old Italian cars - especially from the 70's and 80's - are becoming rarer and rarer, means that they come up for sale less and less - especially the good ones. :(
