Title: Personal vanity project Post by: Robert on January 23, 2012, 06:33:06 PM The last weeks saw me busy compiling input for my vanity project: a book on the "Ineptitude" and the Fiat 131 in general. Now time has come to proudly present the finished work, a book of 80 full color pages, 11" x 9", hard cover, text in German (naturally). The cover looks like this:
(http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/131titel.jpg) and the text starts with 131 history and data before centering on the life, purgatory, and resurrection of my own 131, the "Ineptitude". For the initial chapters I took the liberty of translating (and abridging) texts written by Simon, Kevin, Albert and Willem; the "Ineptitude" story is naturally written all by myself. Here's a few pages to show you how it looks like (just some photographs I took this morning from the finished book, so please excuse the quality): (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/03.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/07.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/08.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/23.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/36.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/46.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/48.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/51.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/52.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/63.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/67.jpg) (http://www.oelprinz-online.de/images/fiatbuch/71.jpg) More pictures available at http://www.oelprinz-online.de/fiat131buch This is a single copy, the book will not be published. It is just my vanity book. Printing costs were 60 Euro, so not cheap, but I am very happy with the result :) Title: Re: Personal vanity project Post by: mirafioriman on January 23, 2012, 06:47:27 PM Wow, that's lovely ;)
Much cheaper than Guy Croft's book too, you should start selling them on ebay! Title: Re: Personal vanity project Post by: kev131 on January 23, 2012, 07:11:53 PM Fantastic Job Robert - You should be proud of your 131 project..as well as the printed results. Nice to see 3MAs get such exposure too... :)
I wonder if there was demand would the printing costs come down? Title: Re: Personal vanity project Post by: Yagmur on January 23, 2012, 07:32:51 PM Wonderful job,
congratulations... Title: Re: Personal vanity project Post by: simon131 on January 23, 2012, 10:11:10 PM Absolutely fabulous Robert! I'd buy a copy! 8)
Title: Re: Personal vanity project Post by: Thotos on January 23, 2012, 11:55:09 PM That's fantastic! Congratulations and well done Robert ;) The book looks of very high quality and I think ?60 for a one-off print in hardback is very cheap.
I think a version in English will easily sell a few hundred copies and probably a lot more. Title: Re: Personal vanity project Post by: Thotos on January 24, 2012, 12:59:41 AM Do you know of Lulu? (www.lulu.com and also UK version at www.lulu.com/uk or German site at www.lulu.com/de). They can publish your book from a simple ebook to 'print and pay as you buy' or a full book print and distribution including an ISBN for your book.
PS You've misspelled my name (but I'm not complaining) ;D ;D Title: Re: Personal vanity project Post by: Robert on January 24, 2012, 12:53:14 PM Thank you all for your kind words, very appreciated :) my apologies go to Theo - this is the only typo in the whole book, and on the last page and on the last line, very sorry for that >:(
Encouraged by your feedback I spoke to the printer today, they are prepared to give around 10% reduction on reprints when ordering 10 copies or more. I would be prepared to make an English version of the book if a) there is genuine interest in the community and b) if one of the native speakers would commit himself to correct my humble approach on an English translation. Let me know! Title: Re: Personal vanity project Post by: parrish on January 24, 2012, 01:44:44 PM EXCELLENT, ill certainly buy one. ( in English)
Title: Re: Personal vanity project Post by: Thotos on January 24, 2012, 02:10:06 PM I'd buy one (in English) too ;) I'd even offer my services to proof-read the English version but I'm sure most of you (all of you?) will claim I'm not a "native speaker" ;D ;D

Title: Re: Personal vanity project Post by: Tas131 on January 26, 2012, 12:29:13 AM b) if one of the native speakers would commit himself to correct my humble approach on an English translation. Let me know! My wife does proof reading and editing! ;D |
