Title: Re: 131 Brake upgrade Post by: Walezy on November 01, 2007, 09:02:52 PM If you wish to use 15" wheels then the best value for money will be lancia delta-thema calipers with 284mm discs. The other option is using 254mm discs (vented) from honda civic(will fit after slight modification) with calipers. You will need to make some brackets made of at least 4mm steel.
You need to change the master cylinder to 25,4mm to get a firm pedal. Fiat tipo, lancia thema, delta will fit nicely after a bit of modification and you will need to use some silicone to seal the connection between pump and servo. Title: Re: 131 Brake upgrade Post by: Thotos on November 01, 2007, 09:34:50 PM I have the 257mm solid discs as fitted to several Fiats and Alfas with Fiat Bravo callipers and carriers. It's a straight forward swap but I don't think the 24mm wide vented version as fitted to Bravo 155 will be a straight fit (but might be?)
When the original Tarox discs had to be replaced as they went very rusty (!!) I fitted a set of cheap discs bought on eBay and they were hopeless! I realised that a couple of weeks before the 3MA while going round the Mercedes Benz test track at Brooklands and of course I had great trouble stopping during the 3MA. In fact the only thing my brakes were good for during the 3MA was producing A LOT of smoke! Since then I have replaced the discs and pads for a matched set by Mintex and the improvement seems excellent. I haven't used the brakes in Anger yet but they felt very good while driving round the Gaydon test track in September. It was only 3 laps though so just about enough to get the brakes up to temperature. I think the best upgrade you can do to a 131 is to fit rear discs. My car has front 131 discs fitted to the rear and uses Golf GTI rear callipers and carriers. The carriers need slight modification and some metal needs to be removed from the panhard rod bracket to make room for the calliper to fit. Title: Re: 131 Brake upgrade Post by: parrish on November 02, 2007, 02:20:06 AM I believe Fiat Uno Turbo discs and calipers are a straight forward swop.
They are fitted to my 131. Steve Title: Re: 131 Brake upgrade Post by: BKFIAT on November 02, 2007, 11:25:36 AM rear discs and callipers from an 1800gls fiat132 are a straight swap over for the rear of your 131.Might not be easy to locate.
Title: Re: 131 Brake upgrade Post by: leifa on November 16, 2007, 07:57:06 PM I've fitted most of this this kit on my 131 at the front: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250151206989&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:UK:1
At the front I've got 284 mm vented, grooved and drilled Black diamond disk and at the rear the disks from the kit (284 mm. vented disks from Brakeworld) with front calipers from a Rito/Strada 130 TC. Two Girling masters with a bias adjustment at the pedal and adjustable pressure regulator for the rear brakes. The rims must be 15" The handbrake is hydraulic. I have only done a few hundred kilometers regularity/challenge rally with the brakes and no track or regular rally yet, but the brakes feel OK. Title: Re: 131 Brake upgrade Post by: KRENZER JEAN on December 19, 2007, 11:25:22 AM HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS ON 131
brakes from a tipo 1.8 gt do fit ... you have only to build the left side at the right side, and do the same for the right side. the only problem is you cann't use 13' whells any more.. made that change 2 years ago without any trouble. Sure, It might be other solutions, but I included the financial sight too. Title: Re: 131 Brake upgrade Post by: kosa131 on January 02, 2008, 06:28:05 PM I used front break from Fiat regata 100s (disc 257mmx12mm). -14 inch tyres in my first 131 (131 racing walter rohrl '80). In second 131 (special '77)i have 13inch tyres and front disc from fso polonez with lucas brake system (251mm) and calipers from fiat cinquecento/seicento/palio.http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/6839/zdjcie011ay7.jpg
(this is my first post in this forum, and my english not very well). Title: Re: 131 Brake upgrade Post by: 131v6 on January 02, 2008, 09:52:37 PM I believe Fiat Uno Turbo discs and calipers are a straight forward swop. They are fitted to my 131. Steve yep they bolt straight on and work under 13" wheels. Very common conversion. Requires only new brake hoses or adapter fitting. Title: Re: 131 Brake upgrade Post by: bolger on January 03, 2008, 08:12:19 AM I use 257 mm ventilated setup from Tipo/Tempra. It's a straight fit, for steel standard 14' wheels a distance plate is necessary (I've used a standard one from Fiat 125p). I also use 20.64 brake pump.
