Not a 131 topic but someone might be fit to help me :)

I am on the hunt for another Fiat to add to my collection, a Regata yes someone wants to buy a Regata ;D ! It has to be a twin cam model 100S or 90S i.e., Fiat also had a Regata 2000 with a 2.0 twin cam. I don?t want any 70 or 85 or DS (DSL) :(. I want a very clean original car, no rot boxes and not to many owners, I am very fussy! ;D I will most likely have to buy a LHD car as not many Regata?s left in Ireland and the UK, twin cam models did not sell in big numbers over here.

I do like the early Regata?s the most, the ones with the square door handles; I think they are a better looking car then the later cars and a lot rarer too. Many years ago I can still remember to this day looking around an early 100S it was 1985/6 in metallic gold the best colour I think. Electric windows, steel sunroof, power steering, central locking, heater controls, check panel, split folding rear seats, hinged cover over the radio, they were a nice car when new, and I have always had a soft spot for them.

Good luck on your purchase. It won't be easy to find one in mint condition. But perhaps someone knows of one.
I always liked Regatta's too. I think because they look so much like 131's, despite of the fact that they are based on the Ritmo/Strada chassis.

Nice to hear someone else likes Regata's, I thought maybe it was only me that liked them ;D
I am in no rush will wait for the right car, if it takes me 10 years I will find one, I am very luckly I always find mint condition cars. If I can find a mint as new 131 Super, and a RHD 131 Panorama :) I will find a twin cam Regata :)

Back in 1986, when i started off as a Fiat mechanic, i worked on Regatta's every day. They were so easy to work on. And they drove fantastic. But already then they rusted very much. The problem was the Ritmo base. This is already poor but the rear end of the Regatta, which is just welded to the original chassis (sort of) was even worse. I remember ther was not a towbar available here in Holland for Regatta's. Just because they knew it was too weak. Too bad.
But when you find one, i'll come over for a spin. If that's alright with you. I really, really love this car. ;)

Sadly these car rusted more then 131's :( and they were eat by rust. The gold 100S I remember as a chid was always a well looked after car, I use to see it a good bit and then I did not see it for about a year and it was rotten eat by the rust :'( :'( Our 131 was a much older car then the regata by 4 years :o :o but the regata was a rot box. There was no NCT or MOT in Ireland back then, and this regata was still used it had a 160000 miles on it the engine was still 100% but it was the body with all the rot that killed it in the end :'( I say the Regata was only around 8 years old :o

I never drove a Regata :( only ever sat in the back :)

You would be very welcome to drive my Regata if I find one ;) I say I will have to drive one back from Italy or Germany, so maybe we can meet up :)

I would surely like to have a trip in that one. Even if it was on the passenger seat. ;) But to get those old days back and have a spin myself would be awsome. I really hope you find one. It must be possible. Take Albert (Bellamachina) for example, he seems to find the most wonderful 131's in mint condition. Have a talk with him. I'm sure he knows one for a fair price.

Old days gone by is why I want a Regata, lots of good memory ;D I have been on to Albert to keep an eye out for one ;) Its alway nice to have a passenger with you on a trip in a classic Fiat ;D just incase you need a hand to push it home ;D

 ;) You don't have much confidence in Regatta's. But as i recall...yes..they would fail sometimes...fusebox problems
Same with Tempra's in later years. Due to water leaking on it. Those italians... ;) :D :D

I only know some words in Greek, but i wouldn't want to have one anyway. Never fancied SEAT after the 131/132's. Not even the Fura (127).

Isn't it an option for you to build in a twin cam together with the gearbox from Tipo or Croma? :-\

Thanks for the link, it looks clean and early too :) but it has to be a twin cam regata.

I am doing this with a 131 I have turing it into a twin cam one, and it's a big job and I think once is enough. But if I cant find a twin cam Regata I will have to do this, but a rotten 100S doner car would be hand to have for the job ;D

Occasionally I see some driving around. Still a few to be found in wrecking yards in OZ, freight would be painful though.

That's why around here they were called Gredos  :D :D :D

I think the Regata's sold well in OZ ? could you crumble one into a box and post it on to me  ;D ;D ?

We had a 100s, it was mint and won best car in register a few times at Fiat motor club National weekend shows. Great car. My mums uncle has a 70 model which i might get one day fingers crossed. 13k, 1 owner. 1987/8 model. Not seen for a while but in use. Shame it's not a twin cam model although we have a low mileage twin cam regata engine, power rack etc as spares. ;)

That sounds like a nice regata :) the 70's got better owners then the 100's. Have you any photo's of the regata's ?

I never liked the Regata and did not think it was a worthy replacement for the 131.

However, what I do think is superb is the fact that people are prepared to put the time and effort in to preserving such vehicles.

It seems that with many marques people are interested in 70's and early 80's cars (TR7's, Capri's, Cortina's, and even various BL offerings). However is there such a following for 80's and even 90's cars. It is a shame if there isn't.

Please correct me if my assumptions are wrong.

I do think that 1980?s and early 1990?s cars are being collected. I have seen it in German and Japanese cars, I think that this was the golden age for these makes. In time other makes will follow, IMO I do believe that after the early 1990?s car became more throw away and recycled things, built by a committee and lots of EU regulations that takes away the soul that older cars had :( :'(

I am happy with my little Fiat collection, and the next pace is a Twin Cam Regata. I like to have Fiat?s a little different and rarer, then the other models in the range this is why I have a 131 Panorama. The Regata was never a true replacement for the RWD 131, as FWD is never as much fun as a RWD. The Regata was built on the Ritmo base with a boot glued on, but they are rare now and maybe some day more people will want them. I think the Regata Twin Cam was the model to have as it had all the toys and it?s the best looking in the range :)

I didn?t think that this topic would have got as many replies as it has, so maybe there is a little bit of love out there for Regata?s ;D    

I had Fiat 131 sports and supermirafiori's since 1987 and all were great cars, I have also had regata's including a B reg (84-85) 100S  and all of them were a complete let down in comparison with any 131 .
They always seemed to be cheaply made and I know it makes no sense but they felt worse than their strada equivilant even though they were basically the same with just a bit added on but I suppose its each to their own but they are not for me.

I like the saloon more then the weekend, I did see a 90S ie on mobile.de today but it was in very poor condition lots of rust :'( Thanks for keeping an eye out for a regata for me Albert :)

For Regata's IMHO the Saloon is by far the better looker.

The 131 Panorma in S2 Super Spec was a great looking car inside and out.

Its a very clean Regata, and has been for sale for a year or two, and is always on and off website's for sale. Its up at ?4500, ?2950, and ?3500 on autoscourt24 the other day ???  

I would love to find a twin cam one as clean as this one ;D

Thanks K :) I am very lucky to have my S3 Super, the only thing my S3 has made me more fussy about my Fiats :-\ and any Regata I buy will have to be as new too, right down to the new car clunk when you close the doors like my Super ;D
