I am in desperate need of one of these. They are not handed.
My one is badly chipped and as its made from diecast it cannot be welded without melting.
I have tried a metal filler but it takes a strain at this point and will not tighten sufficiently causing the mirror body to droop too low on every journey.
It would be greatly appreciated as it is the final part of a major rebuild.
Please email Rob at r3bel299@gmail.com.  A good price would be paid for a tatty but intact item.
Thank you.  Longhamrob.

Possibly the reason for the bracket breaking and the "drooping" mirror is incorrect fitment of the mirror in the first place. The long bolt/screw that holds the mirror body in place should be free of the forward facing base hole. That means the mirror is held in place by being squeezed up against the back of the base. The screw head should act as a pivot in the base's forward facing hole (that's why the original screws have such a 'fat' head). A strange flat washer at the front face of the mirror body should stop the long screw from undoing itself and so stops the mirror from drooping.  These flat washers wear with age (and sometimes people take them off!) which causes the screw to loosen and the body to droop. The washer can be replaced with a crinkle washer but it must be small enough to be able to fit through the forward facing base hole. You should not have a long screw with a large head or washer at the screw head to try and squeeze the base to hold the mirror in place; all that will achieve is a broken base and a drooping mirror.  The mirror bases are unique to the Fiat 131. 'Standard' California mirror bases can be used but it means drilling a new mounting hole on the door.

This description is perfect & exactly what I had detected. I am indeed using New 'California' mirrors which are identical mirror bodies but, as mentioned, the mirror base/bracket is shorter. This means, at best, one original hole is out of line and a third hole being drilled. Unfortunatly no good for me as I was using new pre holed doors.
I did not break the bracket. I bought it earlier this year broken.
Bizarrely i also used a crinkle washer in the same place but to no avail. I even made a replica flat washer out of a clip.
It never comes loose. It is the surface area of contact where it is squeezed up. With my broken one it is misaligning that (opposite) area.
My passenger side mirror assembly is an identical twin but not broken and never gives any problems.
If someone could spare me an intact one I would be grateful.     L rob.
