The Orange 131 is back in the UK and has just been set up on a RR at Northampton Motor sport.
Dont have the print out yet but an e mail confirms 147BHP at the wheels.
I have a narrow Torque band but I think thats down to the Camshafts.
Correct me if im wrong but standard 2.0 twin cam new is 113BHP?

That will be 34BHP more than the Racing.

Racing
1,995 cc
straight-4 dohc
115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp)

That will be 7BHP more than an Abarth Grin

 Abarth Rally
1,995 cc
straight-4 dohc
140 PS (100 kW; 140 hp)

Came at a price:
Fully rebuilt engine with Lancia Big valve head and high lift cams, OMEX Electronic ignition and EFI through a Pair of twin Jenvey throttle bodies.
so only an MOT and ill be able to drive her next time im home.

Nice one Steve. All those years of fettlling finally paid off!

115bhp for the Sport/ Racing, 113 for the Super.

Will you be home for 3MA?

Kev,
Ill not be home unfortunately Sad
Good news is that in future ill have one 131 in UK to Drive and one 131 in Spain to drive.
Although as ive just had the TR8 engine rebuilt ill have to share my driving whilst in the UK between the 131 and the TR8 Grin

Bollocks, Steve.

Just look at this facebook entry from one Simon Peckham, and believe every word he says:

"Iffy picture but this was my '81 Sport taken in 1987. 192 bhp, which was Massive back then. It did 8 mpg round town, 13 mpg on a run but I lived at home then."

See, you spent lots of money for a mere 32 bhp gain. A lad who lived at home then had an engine with nearly works rally car output...

So a standard sport should be around 89bhp @ the wheels   Wink

even  'The God' Guy was from road spec 155bhp flywheel  up to 192bhp  for fully rally spec back in 90's i don't if modern  efi on throttle bodys with programmable fuel and ignition maps will increase that massively

but what a shopping list....

Robert,
I can only work with the figures ive got and the engine I have.
what I say about the BHP of Original Sports 131 is from the www.
If i get to meet him maybe me and Simon Peckham can compare RR printoffs at some time.
Im guessing his 192BHP was at the wheels? that would equate (not precisely) to approx 230 BHP!!! at the crank.
If i were to use the same on line calculator for my mere 147BHP at the wheels I should have 178BHP at the Crank.
Of course calculating back and forth from Crank to wheels is not precise as there are so many different factors to consider.
I used this online calculator:http://www.mk5cortinaestate.co.uk/calculator4.php
Gaining Engine BHP is not so simple, the first few BHP come cheaply, then you have to spend more to gain a little bit more here and a little bit there.
The Dyno run was the first with my engine settings. NMS should by now have had a go at altering the cam timing to suit.
Due to clearence problems and the fact that the head is from a Lancia (tilted back) I had a custom manifold fabricated and this is what is currently fitted, its not the best, I do have a port matched inlet manifold for the head but unfortunately the TB's end up at approx 22 Degrees down from vertical, maybe I will try some time in the future with the port fitted manifold and see whats to be gained.
Ill keep you informed.

Believe every word I say Grin

jasonh,
Ill get the RR print off when im back in the UK scan and post, no two engines are the same 155 BHP at a flywheel does not tell you about the power your putting down on the road, you have transmission losses to consider, BHP is best measured on a RR at the wheels and will always be lower than the engine BHP.
Current Lancia head fitted to my engine pushed out a previous 192BHP when fitted to a Monte Carlo I have the Printout, I have not listed all the engine modifications, although their isnt much more to say other than I followed the God (Guy) book to the letter when reassembling.
Again figures I have are what ive got, yes it will be a pleasure to meet you some time, maybe ill pass you one day in an Mofified Orange 131 pushing out 147BHP at 6800 RPM.

Steve, sorry for pulling your leg. Of course I do believe you, I just made fun about this unbelievable bragging of said Simon Peckham. Maybe he meant 129 bhp, not 192.

From all I know about Fiat 2 liter TC engines, you may gain up to 140 bhp with more or less modest modifications. Theo's GC engine has 155 bhp on the dyno which is really strong output. All higher numbers are IMHO wishful thinking and might be achieved only with injection and/or use of a turbo charger.

Robert,
you got me with that  Cheesy
seriously though I am expecting a bit more from the engine, currently I have a very narrow torque/power band, I think its down to slightly over lapping inlet/exhaust phases being too long.
I am hoping adjusting the cams will improve that.
I cant tell you how much I am looking forward to getting her on the road and driven.
Problem is I have a Del Lines TR8 FHC in 'Robsport International' near Cambridge having a fully rebuilt engine fitted and she will have to be collected and driven North around the same time as the Fiat (I have storage in County Durham) so which one to drive and which one to have trailored up.
http://www.classicandsportscar.ltd.uk/Triumph-TR8-Del-Lines/classic-cars-for-sale/14047
Then again maybe ill do both over a couple of days Grin
I think Theo's engine is a GC unit, im sure he will correct me if im wrong.
If you read the GC book its amazing how much more improvement their is avilabe when rebuilding an engine, I thought I knew it all GC taught me I didnt!
If you dont have a copy im willing to post it to you for a read, then you can send it back, but be ware it will make you want to pull your engine and play! Grin
Will be later this year as ill not be where the book is until Aug/Sept. PM me if you want to read it.

Hi Steve!
Very nice engine and good amount of HP at rear wheel!
What cams are you using and what specfs are they? Is it a Beta head, 42,2mm intake valve?

Cheers

Alf,
I bought the head 2nd hand, not sure about the cams, however I do somewhere have some information when I bought it.
I'll look for it and if I can I'll post here.
From what I can remember the head was from a Monte Carlo.
valves are the biggest I think you could possibly fit, not much if any room for anything larger.
