Interesting with a CL centre console, non-remote gearchange, series 1 handbrake, rectangular twin headlamps and a sunroof! I like the leather(?) seats  ;)

It's not really a replica, more just a modified 2 door 131. I quite like the look of it and some of the modifications. Runs a VW motor by the look of it too.

What is so terrible about it? I know with what I'm going to say an ex member would kill me but if I had a 2door one I would like it better with the wider arches of a stradale...

I know everybody has his own opinion about cars. Mine about this one is that i don't like it. Because of the sunroof, grille and sideskirts. Sorry, but it looks like a cheap VW Golf C with optical tuning. Even worse, it looks like it got a VW engine as well.
I am a purist when it comes to the rally looks of the 131, and i just can't find myself in this one. Just giving my opinion and i respect everyone who thinks different  :)

I fully agree with Mike, also not my cup of tea.  And then the owner claims it is a real collectors piece.  No Fiat collector here in South Africa will buy this car with the VW engine in it.  As you say it is not a Abarth replica but a modified 131 with the wrong engine in it.  R 82000 equils about 7500 British Pounds.

Actually.......I like this ....a lot. I think there is always a place for "one off" interpretations of what a modified 131 should look like and I think this is quite a restrained and well thought out creation.

I think that calling it an Abarth replica is stretching things a little but as a customised 131 it looks very well and twin cam engines are common enough if one wanted to have a heart transplant. Full marks on what looks like a quality and integrated creation.....from me at least.  :)

If I was choosing between a genuine Stradale... in blue  :) ....and this car, both at equal cost, then the Stradale would win of course but this is a worthy car too.  :)

Hmm, chosing between a Stradale and this customized car? I'd allways would chose the Stradale, even when totally rotten, incomplete or badly damaged. Just giving my opinion. I really do not like the looks of this thing. ;) ;)

What if it had sport grill? I wouldn't be that different from any of the replicas...
From the outside I mean...

Title: Re: 131 Abarth Replica in South Africa!
Post by: mirafiori76 on February 22, 2011, 09:20:03 PM
Sport grille would be better. But how about the sideskirts? And then there's that hole in the roof... ;)

Title: Re: 131 Abarth Replica in South Africa!
Post by: stathe174 on February 22, 2011, 09:26:12 PM
Actually I like sideskirts in a car... As for the "hole in the roof" it's a completely subjective matter...
The only problem I see with that car is the one we don't see but know that it's there: The VW engine...
That is a real bummer...

Well for those of you looking for male escorts !!   :D :D
Personally I dont think its so bad - a 1.3 Cl with a lot of work gone into it ( apparently) should have a 150 bhp oil burner in it - a 16V golf would shred the standard diff in seconds -but then so would  150 pdi oil burner !
Just my tuppence to the thread - but what do i know !!
reasonable money if it is solid - but i agree - that front face has to go !!  ;D ;D

well, it could be original H?rmann, like on this car I took for parts some years ago. The grill, however, ended up in the trash bin because nobody wanted to have it. The Carello lights I still do have, by the way. Anyone interested?  ;)

I have more photo's of this car. Sure the colors are horrible but the car looks in nice shape. The bodywork at least. What did you do with it, Robert?

Title: Re: 131 Abarth Replica in South Africa!
Post by: Robert on February 24, 2011, 10:17:53 PM
Scrapped it. It was badly rusted, and I mean badly. However, lots of parts live on in my car or were sold. Engine, gearbox, Konis, driveshaft, H?rmann floor protection, complete front axle with steering rack, wheel arches, dashboard and front spoiler are in my car or go there. Driver door, rear axle, exhaust, front mask, front bumper, steering column I keep for spares. Vial wheels, springs, seats, rear muffler, center console, instrument cluster, steering wheel and other stuff were sold. Many years ago now.

Poor car. It was once an orange Sport. Came into the hands of people who made it worse than a Replica  ;D

By the way, the price for it was 6.70 Euros  ;D

And on second thought: the roof spoiler I sold to Ireland. Seems it wasn't happy there and moved on to England?  ;)

Is one of the rear whell arch the one you have send me? :D :D :D

Title: Re: 131 Abarth Replica in South Africa!
Post by: Robert on February 25, 2011, 08:02:25 AM
yes, I had two for the same side of this particular arch. So, parts of this car live on in Greece also. And in Australia, the B pillar cover plates went there  8)

By the way, strangest item that was in the car was a stone age "navigation system" by Bosch, from the 80s. See this picture, looks like a taxi clock, but isn't. Also found a happy buyer. Remember, this car was scrapped in 2004, so no bad feelings about trashing a "rare" Sport. Maybe now it would have been a basis for a Replica - it wasn't 7 years ago, there was simply no interest. The times they have changed a little (only a little, still perfect Sports are butchered with uncertain results these days...)

Sorry Mike, here it is - I was distracted it seems  >:(

The name of the system was "Bosch Car Pilot", by the  way. Hard to find any info on this on the web, but I even managed to get the original user manual (xerocopy) from Bosch back then.

I never knew there were gps systems back in the 80's. I thought it was something invented in the 90's.
Anyway, the (gay) colors were also on the inside of the car  :-\
Here is one of the pictures i have from this car  ;)

It was no GPS system. Used a gyrocompass, no satellites. (Don't know if it was any use at all, besides looking fancy).

See the rear muffler on this car? Tried to sell it here several times, nobody wanted it - now it has gone to Northern Germany, new owner (no, it's not Heini!) is happy. Is mounted to a marvelous blue CL with chrome bumpers, looks good - I'm astonished myself  :)

From 128 3P  :)

Not sure about that  :-\ They look square on the 131 but they are not square on the 3p. Probably some kind of standard square lights as used on trailers  ;)

Theo's right. Not from 128 3P, otherwise they would have sold like gold  ::) See here, a view from behind. Just square, not in rhombus shape like on 128 Coup
